Role Overview
This position is responsible for leading a school’s special needs and learning support department, ensuring that every learner with additional requirements receives timely identification, tailored support, and effective accommodation. You will coordinate learner assessments, collaborate daily with teachers, parents, and external specialists, and monitor individual progress to refine support strategies. Your leadership directly fosters an inclusive school environment where all students can access the curriculum and thrive academically and socially.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the identification process for learners with special educational needs and coordinate the delivery of appropriate assessments and interventions.
- Guide classroom teachers in adopting inclusive teaching methods and making reasonable accommodations that meet diverse learning needs.
- Work closely with parents, school leaders, and external specialists to build a consistent support network around each student.
- Track and document learner progress regularly, maintaining accurate records and producing clear reports with actionable recommendations.
- Lead the Special Needs and Learning Support Department, setting a vision of excellence, inclusion, and continuous improvement.
- Ensure all learning support programmes align with school policies and national inclusive education standards through ongoing quality assurance.
- Facilitate professional development sessions and on-the-job coaching to strengthen inclusive teaching practices across the whole school.
- Coordinate the procurement, management, and use of specialised learning resources and assistive technologies to enhance learner support.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Minimum of five years of relevant subject-matter teaching experience, or four years of managerial or leadership experience in an educational setting.
- A Bachelor’s degree in Special Needs Education or a closely related field.
- Valid registration with the Teachers Service Commission (TSC).
- A current certificate of good conduct from a recognised authority.
