Role Overview
This role centers on the day-to-day procurement of fresh produce from local farmers, markets, and suppliers, requiring constant negotiation and supply chain oversight to match company demand. Every decision around sourcing and pricing directly impacts the business’s ability to deliver quality fruits and vegetables consistently while staying competitive. The work matters because it ensures product freshness, supports sustainable farming partnerships, and keeps inventory aligned with customer ordering patterns.
Key Responsibilities
- Locate and evaluate new sources of produce from farmers and suppliers to improve cost efficiency and shorten delivery timelines.
- Work closely with aggregators and lead farmers to plan and schedule packhouse deliveries using data-driven insights.
- Negotiate prices, payment terms, and delivery schedules with existing suppliers to secure competitive rates and steady supply.
- Build long-term partnerships with farmers and suppliers, handling concerns and providing timely updates on issue resolution.
- Check supplier compliance with quality standards and ethical guidelines to promote responsible sourcing.
- Study market trends on pricing, seasons, and customer preferences to forecast demand and keep inventory at optimal levels.
- Partner with warehouse and logistics teams to control stock levels, reduce waste, and preserve product freshness.
- Monitor client ordering patterns and produce inventory to prevent over-sourcing and secondary waste.
- Use the sourcing platform effectively and apply data trends to streamline procurement activities.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Agriculture, or a related discipline; relevant certifications are advantageous.
- Proven experience in sourcing, procurement, or supply chain management, ideally within the fruit and vegetable industry or food distribution sector.
- Deep understanding of local produce markets, supplier networks, and farming methods.
- Strong skills in negotiation, communication, and relationship management.
- Analytical ability to interpret market data, pricing fluctuations, and supplier performance.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills, with a track record of meeting deadlines and prioritizing tasks.
- Familiarity with quality assurance standards and food safety regulations.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
