Role Overview
This position carries responsibility for the therapeutic care of clients across the full arc of the treatment journey — from the first functional assessment through intervention design, caregiver education, and long-term progress review. The post holder also works beyond the individual caseload, shaping how therapy teams are coached, how performance is measured, and how service data feeds into research and reporting. It is a senior clinical role that blends hands-on rehabilitation practice with the systems and people leadership needed to keep services consistent, evidence-based, and accountable.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out functional assessments for each client and translate the findings into clear, workable intervention plans tailored to individual needs and circumstances.
- Keep accurate, up-to-date patient records and maintain the data systems that support continuity of care and clinical decision-making.
- Oversee the health education delivered to patients and their caregivers, ensuring the information shared is correct, practical, and understood.
- Lead environmental assessments of clients' homes, identifying hazards, access issues, and adaptations that will make daily living safer and more independent.
- Track each client's progress over time, following up on outcomes and adjusting interventions where the response to treatment calls for it.
- Drive the collection of service data and support its use in research, monitoring, and periodic reporting to management.
- Champion mentorship and coaching among therapy staff, aligning development practices with established technical service principles and practices in water and sanitation provision.
- Provide oversight for the design, rollout, monitoring, and review of a strong performance management system, including delivery of the annual performance contract and the strategic plan.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, or an equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.

- Registration: Active membership in a relevant professional body in good standing.
- Experience: A cumulative nine years of relevant work experience, of which at least three years must have been served at the grade of Therapist I or in a comparable position.
