Role Overview
The Authorized Securities Dealer builds liquidity in Kenyan government and other approved fixed-income markets by quoting prices, executing trades, and helping clients identify suitable investment opportunities. Working across institutional relationships, market analysis, and portfolio risk, the dealer supports reliable price discovery while contributing to trading activity and sustainable revenue.
Key Responsibilities
- Quote competitive buy and sell prices in Treasury bills, Treasury bonds, infrastructure bonds, corporate bonds, and other approved instruments, supporting active and orderly secondary markets.
- Execute client and proprietary transactions within approved trading limits, mandates, and delegated authorities, and develop trading approaches that balance return objectives with risk.
- Maintain relationships with corporate, institutional, and high-net-worth clients; understand their investment needs and share relevant pricing, market commentary, yield analysis, and trade ideas.
- Track yield curves, interest-rate expectations, inflation, fiscal and monetary policy, sovereign debt developments, and other factors that may affect fixed-income valuations.
- Assess securities using pricing, yield, duration, and portfolio-performance analysis; monitor market, liquidity, and interest-rate exposures, and escalate limit breaches or material risks promptly.
- Take part in Central Bank of Kenya Treasury bill and bond auctions by supporting bid analysis, allocation decisions, and client guidance on auction outcomes and opportunities.
- Coordinate with dealing, treasury back-office, custody, and other teams to ensure transactions are allocated, settled, recorded, and reconciled accurately.
- Maintain complete transaction and client records, follow applicable regulatory and internal controls, and assist with audits, inspections, and compliance reviews.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, economics, banking, accounting, mathematics, statistics, business administration, or a related discipline.
- Four to seven years of relevant experience in fixed-income dealing, treasury, securities trading, capital markets, custody, or institutional sales.
- Practical familiarity with government securities and institutional clients, together with a sound understanding of Kenyan fixed-income market practices and regulation.
- Working knowledge of securities pricing and valuation, yield-to-maturity, yield-curve and duration analysis, portfolio monitoring, market making, and trading risk.
- Ability to interpret macroeconomic and interest-rate developments and apply that analysis to client discussions and investment decisions.
- Proficiency in Bloomberg, Reuters, or a comparable market-data platform, along with advanced Excel skills and financial modelling capability.
- Understanding of primary-market auctions, securities settlement, and custody processes.
- Strong commercial judgement, client relationship skills, negotiation, clear communication, analytical thinking, and organisation; able to make sound decisions under pressure while maintaining high ethical and compliance standards.
