Role Overview
This position sits at the intersection of finance and construction operations, where you will take ownership of the full financial lifecycle for multiple building and infrastructure projects. Day to day, you will track every dollar from budget approval through to final reconciliation, translate raw project data into clear reports for senior leadership, and act as the financial bridge between site teams, contractors, and corporate accounting. Your work directly safeguards profit margins, keeps projects compliant with accounting standards, and gives project managers the numbers they need to make confident, timely decisions.
Key Responsibilities
- Build and maintain detailed project budgets and rolling forecasts, then compare actual performance against those baselines to flag cost overruns or savings opportunities early.
- Record and monitor all project-related expenditures, from subcontractor invoices to materials and equipment, ensuring every charge lands in the correct cost centre and job code.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and ad hoc financial reports for individual projects and consolidated portfolios, including variance analyses, cash flow projections, and executive dashboards.
- Reconcile project accounts, supplier statements, and intercompany transactions, resolving discrepancies before they become reporting problems.
- Support internal and external audits by assembling supporting documentation, explaining project entries, and helping implement any corrective actions or strengthened internal controls.
- Collaborate with project managers and procurement teams on contract terms, change orders, and payment schedules, making sure financial implications are understood before commitments are made.
- Ensure all accounting treatment aligns with IFRS and local tax regulations, and verify that project transactions process through the ERP system correctly.
- Identify process inefficiencies in cost tracking or reporting workflows and recommend practical improvements that increase accuracy and save time across the finance team.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or a related discipline; a master’s degree is a plus.
- Professional certification such as CPA(K), ACCA, or CFA; active membership in a recognized accounting body is strongly preferred.
- At least 7 years of experience in project or construction accounting, with demonstrable exposure to multi-site or large-scale capital projects.
- Advanced working knowledge of cost control principles, job costing, and construction-specific revenue recognition rules.
- Hands-on proficiency with ERP platforms such as SAP, Oracle, or similar systems, including the ability to run reports and troubleshoot data issues.
- Expert-level Excel skills, including pivot tables, complex formulas, and financial modeling for projections and scenario analysis.
- Strong analytical mindset with the ability to translate numbers into clear, actionable narratives for non-finance stakeholders.
- Exceptional attention to detail, with a track record of meeting tight month-end and project reporting deadlines.
- Proven ability to manage competing priorities across multiple projects while maintaining accurate records and clear communication with project leads, contractors, and senior management.
