Role Overview
You will be part of the bank's credit risk function, helping to evaluate lending requests from corporate and wholesale clients and turning financial data into clear, defensible credit decisions. Day to day, you will assess new applications, review renewals, monitor the health of existing exposures, and work with relationship managers to structure deals that meet both the client's needs and the bank's appetite for risk. Your work will directly influence the quality of the loan book and support profitable growth without exposing the bank to undue losses.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out independent credit analysis of borrowing requests using financial statements, cash flow projections, market data, and other relevant information, ensuring alignment with internal lending policies and regulatory requirements.
- Prepare comprehensive credit proposals and present reasoned recommendations to the Management Credit Committee and Board Credit Committee, clearly articulating risk factors, mitigations, and pricing considerations.
- Review facility renewal requests to confirm that borrowers are operating within approved terms, and conduct periodic assessments of covenant compliance and risk triggers on an assigned portfolio.
- Partner with relationship managers to improve underwriting standards, close control items, and ensure that annual reviews and covenant updates are completed on schedule.
- Engage in customer visits to understand business models, identify growth opportunities, and support the structuring of complex lending solutions.
- Work with credit monitoring and control teams to flag deteriorating exposures early and recommend remediation or restructuring actions.
- Participate in portfolio deep dives, stress testing exercises, and reviews of credit policies and underwriting procedures, contributing suggestions to improve efficiency and customer experience.
- Recommend risk-based pricing and fee models that optimise profitability while remaining within the bank's credit risk appetite.
Requirements & Qualifications
- A university degree in Finance, Economics, Business Administration, or a closely related field.
- At least eight years of experience in banking, with a minimum of five years spent specifically in credit origination or credit assessment.
- A master's degree would be an advantage, as would professional accounting qualifications such as ACCA, CPAK, or CIFA.
- Sharp analytical and numerical skills, with the ability to work accurately on detailed and fast-changing financial data.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English, enabling you to produce clear, well-structured reports and presentations.
- Comfortable with digital workplace tools and financial analysis software, and capable of balancing short-term deadlines with longer-term portfolio objectives.
- A logical, solutions-focused mindset that thrives in a dynamic, multi-priority environment.
Why Join
This is an opportunity to play a central role in shaping the bank's credit culture and supporting responsible growth. You will gain exposure to sophisticated lending structures, work closely with senior decision-makers, and see the direct impact of your analysis on the bank's capital strength. The role is designed for someone who wants to grow as a credit professional while contributing to a more resilient and profitable asset portfolio.
