Job Description

Role Overview

This position sits at the core of our Investments team, driving the full lifecycle of energy infrastructure transactions across several African markets. Day to day, you will lead the identification of new opportunities, build complex financial models, and manage fundraising from both local and international lenders and investors. Your work directly enables bankable, scalable power projects that are essential to the continent's energy transformation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Originate and screen investment opportunities in target African power markets, assessing commercial viability and strategic fit.
  • Lead the financial structuring of transactions—including equity, mezzanine, and debt layers—and design project vehicles such as SPVs, concessions, or PPPs.
  • Build and maintain advanced project finance and corporate financial models, running scenario analyses and sensitivity tests to support investment recommendations.
  • Drive debt and equity fundraising processes with DFIs, commercial banks, impact funds, and strategic partners, managing due diligence and term sheet negotiations.
  • Coordinate with governments, regulators, utilities, donors, and technical assistance providers to navigate project approvals and policy requirements.
  • Prepare high-quality investment memoranda, pitch decks, and Investment Committee papers that clearly articulate risk/return profiles and structuring rationale.
  • Advise portfolio and asset management teams on refinancings, restructurings, and covenant compliance, drawing on your transaction expertise.
  • Mentor junior team members in financial modelling, deal execution, and stakeholder management while helping to refine internal investment processes and templates.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Experience: 5–7 years in project development, investment, or project finance within the power or infrastructure sector—ideally at a utility, a project finance desk in an investment bank, a DFI, an infrastructure advisory firm, or an energy-focused private equity fund with early-stage deal involvement.
  • Track Record: Demonstrated ability to lead or co-lead transactions to financial close and manage multi-stakeholder, cross-border workstreams.
  • Technical Skills: Deep understanding of project finance, PPPs, and concession structures; familiarity with PPAs, EPC, O&M contracts, and infrastructure financing instruments (senior debt, mezzanine, blended finance, guarantees); advanced Excel financial modelling and quantitative analysis.
  • Sector & Regional Fit: Strong interest in the African power sector, with intent to build a long-term career there; prior living or working experience in an emerging market is a plus.
  • Communication & Behaviour: Excellent written and verbal English; French or other African languages an advantage. High integrity, ownership, and a proactive, solution-oriented mindset. Ability to juggle multiple projects under tight deadlines while collaborating across cultures.

What We Offer / Why Join

This role offers genuine ownership and leadership over complex, high-impact transactions that are reshaping Africa’s energy landscape. You will work alongside a team deeply committed to the sector, with the opportunity to build a network across DFIs, governments, and private investors, while directly advancing your deal-making career in a high-growth environment.
