Job Description

Role Overview

This role places you at the heart of a respected Nairobi-based law firm, leading the Conveyancing and Commercial Law Department. Day to day, you will manage end-to-end transactions—from property transfers to corporate deals—while guiding a team of legal professionals and advising clients on strategic commercial matters. Your work directly drives the firm’s revenue, client satisfaction, and reputation in Kenya’s competitive legal market.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the full lifecycle of conveyancing, corporate, and commercial transactions, ensuring every file progresses smoothly from initial instruction to formal completion.
  • Lead, mentor, and supervise department lawyers and support staff, setting performance standards and fostering professional development.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of contracts, agreements, and legal instruments—including sale agreements, leases, financing documents, and shareholders’ pacts.
  • Deliver clear, actionable legal advice to clients on real estate, commercial, and corporate law matters, tailoring solutions to their business objectives.
  • Cultivate enduring relationships with key clients, financial institutions, real estate developers, and other stakeholders to secure repeat instructions and referrals.
  • Drive business development initiatives—such as pitching to potential clients, networking at industry events, and cross-selling the firm’s services—to expand the department’s portfolio.
  • Monitor departmental performance metrics, including turnaround times and billable hours, and implement improvements to maintain efficiency and quality.
  • Contribute to the firm’s strategic planning by identifying legal trends, managing operational risks, and sharing insights through articles or internal training sessions.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) degree from a recognised university, followed by admission as an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya with a current practising certificate.
  • At least five years of post-admission experience specialising in conveyancing, commercial law, and corporate law within a busy legal practice.
  • Proven track record handling securities, property transactions, due diligence, and related regulatory compliance processes.
  • Strong drafting and negotiation skills, capable of producing precise legal documents that protect client interests under tight deadlines.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience—whether as a team lead, department head, or partner—with the ability to manage competing priorities and guide junior staff.
  • Excellent research, analytical, and communication abilities, both written and oral, with a client-focused approach to problem-solving.
  • High attention to detail, organisational discipline, and a results-driven mindset that consistently delivers timely, high-quality work.
  • Postgraduate qualification or management training in law or business is a distinct advantage.

What We Offer / Why Join

You will gain exposure to high-value, complex transactions while shaping the direction of a key department. The position offers a platform for professional growth, client-building, and long-term career progression in Nairobi’s legal sector.
