Job Description

Role Overview

This role focuses on the day-to-day stewardship of the organisation’s asset portfolio, ensuring every fixed, intangible, and leased asset is accurately recorded, physically verified, and compliant with IFRS. The position also handles the accounting for accruals, prepayments, payables, and tax filings, working closely with project and operations teams to keep financial data timely and audit-ready. By maintaining tight internal controls and supporting budget cycles, the Senior Accountant directly strengthens the company’s financial integrity and reporting credibility.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the full accounting cycle for all asset categories (fixed, intangible, IFRS 16 leases), from initial recognition through impairment testing and disposal, strictly following IFRS standards.
  • Perform physical asset verifications and tagging in partnership with the operations team, keeping the fixed asset register current and reconciled.
  • Track, reconcile, and schedule accruals and prepayments, ensuring expenses are recognised in the correct period and align with company accounting policies.
  • Prepare audit-ready documentation and sample selections for asset, accrual, prepayment, and tax-related areas; support internal and external audit processes.
  • Manage tax compliance by preparing VAT and WHT returns, reconciling tax accounts, and updating the general ledger in line with local regulations.
  • Coordinate asset risk management, including the timely renewal of insurance policies covering all company assets.
  • Record commission expenses and defer them according to contract terms and expected revenue recognition patterns.
  • Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and management reporting, as well as treasury and compliance tasks for the holding entity.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Education & Certification: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or a related field from an accredited institution. Must be a fully qualified CPA (ICPAK) or ACCA member in good standing.
  • Experience: At least six years of professional experience in a fast-paced finance environment, with substantial focus on asset management, accruals, prepayments, and tax compliance.
  • Technical Knowledge: Deep understanding of IFRS – familiarity with US GAAP is a plus. Proven ability to apply these standards to asset accounting and reporting.
  • Software Skills: Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel is highly valued. Hands-on experience with QuickBooks and dedicated asset management systems. Exposure to Oracle is an advantage.
  • Additional Competencies: Leadership and project management capabilities considered beneficial.
  • Soft Skills: Strong resilience and persistence, comfortable managing multiple time-sensitive tasks in a matrix structure. Excellent stakeholder relationship-building and communication skills to handle disputes professionally. Meticulous attention to detail with a proactive approach to resolving discrepancies. Self-motivated and adaptable, able to thrive under pressure and meet tight deadlines in a high-volume workload.
