Role Overview
This position provides hands-on technical and operational support within a team dedicated to satellite communications. Day to day, you will help install and maintain ground-based satellite equipment, gather and organise frequency data, and support the implementation of policies that govern secure satellite-based services. Your work ensures that stakeholders—from government agencies to public service providers—can rely on stable, inclusive, and properly coordinated satellite links for critical communications.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in implementing satellite communications policies and strategies by preparing technical inputs and supporting senior engineers during planning and review sessions.
- Carry out basic technical assessments of stakeholder communication needs and infrastructure gaps, using site visits and data collection to identify where satellite services can improve coverage or resilience.
- Compile technical information from field operations, system logs, and stakeholder submissions, then draft concise reports or contribute sections to broader research papers and feasibility studies.
- Coordinate day-to-day activities that promote secure and inclusive access to satellite-based communication services, including liaising with internal teams and external users to align operational needs.
- Set up, test, and maintain satellite communications infrastructure and equipment such as antennas, modems, and related hardware, following standard procedures and safety guidelines.
- Maintain records related to satellite frequency allocation and system usage, supporting the coordination and documentation of assigned spectrum and orbital resources.
- Monitor basic operational aspects of satellite communications systems and compile compliance reports that flag anomalies, capacity issues, or deviations from regulatory requirements.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Physics, Astronomy, Astrophysics, Aeronautical/Aerospace Engineering, Remote Sensing, Geographical Information Science, Geo-Spatial Engineering, Surveying, Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering, Software Engineering, Information Technology, Computer Science, Control and Instrumentation, or an equivalent qualification from a recognised institution.
- Proficiency in computer applications, including word processing, spreadsheets, and basic data management tools, with the ability to use software for reporting and technical documentation.
- Demonstrated merit and ability as reflected in work performance and results, showing a capacity to learn quickly and deliver assigned tasks with accuracy and minimal supervision.
