Role Overview
You will be an operational anchor for the lending team, handling client intake, repayment follow-ups, and portfolio tracking in a financial institution. Your daily work keeps borrower records accurate, payments flowing in on time, and customer relationships strong enough to support repeat business and referrals. This role directly affects the institution's ability to monitor risk and sustain healthy loan performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Guide new clients through the onboarding journey, collecting required documents, verifying details, and ensuring files are complete before processing.
- Proactively contact borrowers before and after due dates to remind them of upcoming or overdue instalments, and document every interaction thoroughly.
- Track portfolio performance by updating internal databases, spreadsheets, and trackers with payment statuses, client notes, and follow-up actions.
- Prepare accurate management information reports for supervisors, capturing repayment trends, client feedback, and emerging market needs.
- Work closely with defaulters to understand repayment obstacles and agree on realistic recovery plans, escalating unresolved cases as needed.
- Conduct customer education sessions on loan terms, repayment responsibilities, and financial planning to reduce default risk and build trust.
- Identify and refer potential new borrowers by listening to client needs, networking within the community, and sharing leads with the sales team.
- Maintain organised physical and digital records to support audits, reconciliations, and routine portfolio reviews.
Requirements & Qualifications
- A diploma or degree from a recognised institution, ideally in sales, marketing, business, or a related discipline.
- Solid computer literacy, including proficiency with spreadsheets, word processing, and database management tools.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in English and the local language, with the confidence to speak to clients over the phone and in person.
- At least one year of experience in loan administration, credit recovery, customer service, or another client-facing financial role.
- Familiarity with financial institution processes such as loan disbursement, repayment schedules, and debtor management is a distinct advantage.
- Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail, especially when handling sensitive customer data and payment records.
