Job Description

Role Overview

This role supports the collection of both qualitative and quantitative data for an integrated health services study operating across Kitui, Kiambu, and Nairobi counties. Day to day, you will work directly within your assigned community or facility to recruit participants, obtain informed consent, conduct interviews or assessments, and enter data accurately and promptly. Your diligence directly influences the quality and completeness of the research, helping the project team draw reliable insights into how health services are delivered and received.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review and adhere to the study protocol, ensuring all activities meet ethical approval requirements.
  • Engage with local communities and health facilities to share study information, build trust, and activate research sites.
  • Identify, screen, and enrol eligible participants, following up with them as needed throughout the data collection period.
  • Collect data from participants using both quantitative tools (structured surveys) and qualitative methods (interviews or focus groups).
  • Enter collected data into designated databases or systems on a timely basis, flagging any inconsistencies.
  • Maintain detailed logs of research procedures, observations, and outcomes to support transparency and audit readiness.
  • Respond quickly to data queries from the study coordinator or data manager, correcting errors or clarifying entries.
  • Assist with routine data quality checks, including verification, cleaning, and cross-referencing against source documents.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Nursing, Clinical Medicine, Social Science, or a closely related field from a recognised institution, with prior clinical research experience.
  • Alternatively, a diploma in a health profession with experience in infectious disease prevention and care (such as HIV or TB) or non-communicable disease (NCD) management.
  • Proven experience in field research, including participant recruitment, data collection (both quantitative and qualitative), and basic data management.
  • Strong interpersonal and cultural sensitivity skills to work effectively with diverse communities in Kitui, Kiambu, or Nairobi.
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently with minimal supervision, meeting deadlines in a remote or field-based setting.
  • Proficiency in using electronic data collection tools (e.g., tablets, smartphones with survey apps) and standard office software.

What We Offer / Why Join

This is a temporary appointment initially lasting two months, with the possibility of extension based on available funding and satisfactory performance. You will gain hands-on experience in a multi-county integrated health research project, deepening your skills in community engagement, ethical data collection, and field coordination.
