Role Overview
This position centres on turning raw satellite and Earth observation data into actionable insights that support national planning, environmental monitoring, and scientific research. Day to day, you will process and interpret imagery, manage data archives, coordinate training for end users, and work with partners to ensure that space-derived information reaches the people and institutions who need it. Your work directly strengthens the country's capacity to use Earth observation for everything from disaster response to land-use mapping and technological innovation.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out remote sensing analysis, including digital image processing and interpretation, to produce reliable technical reports and maps for various applications.
- Implement and periodically review policies, strategies, and technical guidelines that govern the acquisition, sharing, and use of Earth observation data.
- Manage the full data lifecycle: acquire, process, distribute, and archive space-derived datasets while maintaining robust storage and retrieval systems.
- Design and deliver training materials, workshops, and knowledge-sharing sessions that help stakeholders build practical skills in Earth observation.
- Conduct research on Earth observation satellite technologies and lead innovation projects that explore new uses for geospatial data.
- Build and maintain partnerships with government agencies, academic institutions, and industry players to advance Earth observation activities.
- Perform needs assessments to understand what data stakeholders require, identify gaps, and propose solutions that improve data accessibility and relevance.
- Support risk management and quality assurance efforts by documenting potential threats to data availability or system integrity and recommending mitigation steps.
Requirements & Qualifications
- A bachelor's degree in physics, astronomy, astrophysics, aeronautical or aerospace engineering, remote sensing, geographical information science, geospatial engineering, surveying, civil, electrical, electronics, mechanical, telecommunications, or software engineering, information technology, computer science, control and instrumentation, or an equivalent qualification from a recognised institution.
- Strong practical proficiency in computer applications, including the use of geospatial software, office productivity tools, and database systems.
- Demonstrated merit and capability, reflected in consistent work performance, problem-solving ability, and delivery of results in a relevant technical or analytical role.
