Role Overview
This role sits at the heart of the trust services function, acting as the dedicated fiduciary expert for a portfolio of personal and institutional trusts. You will be the person clients and their advisers turn to for practical, legally sound guidance on trust administration, while also developing the portfolio commercially. The work combines technical trust law with relationship management, ensuring every trust is managed in line with its deed, the law, and the bank’s governance standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as the main fiduciary contact for settlors, beneficiaries, and professional advisers, interpreting trust deeds and guiding them on distributions, reporting, and structural changes.
- Manage the full client lifecycle from onboarding and KYC to scheduled portfolio reviews, retaining ownership of service quality, renewals, and billing.
- Execute trustee duties precisely and on time, including discretionary distributions, income payments, and maintaining statutory records for every trust.
- Keep accurate and current client and beneficiary records to support sound decision-making and to demonstrate regulatory compliance at all times.
- Run ongoing compliance checks covering anti-money laundering, KYC, and other legal obligations, remediating any exceptions before they become audit findings.
- Identify and qualify new trust and wealth management opportunities, working alongside retail and corporate banking teams to convert relationships into new business.
- Produce clear periodic reports for clients, management, and regulators, and prepare board or beneficiary meeting packs as needed.
- Support internal and external audits, ensuring all trust files are audit-ready and that any recommendations are implemented quickly.
Requirements & Qualifications
- A university degree in Law, Business Administration, Economics, Finance, Banking, or a related discipline from a recognised institution.
- Professional certification is essential, specifically CISI Wealth Management, CIFA, or an equivalent recognised qualification.
- At least five years of practical experience in trust administration, private banking, or wealth management, with a proven track record of managing client portfolios.
- At least five years of experience in client relationship management and business development, including the ability to grow portfolio revenue and retain clients.
- Five years of experience dealing with investment, pension, and insurance products specifically within the Kenyan market, including familiarity with RBA, CMA, IRA, and the Trustees Act.
- Sound knowledge of trust law, succession planning, fiduciary obligations, and the regulatory environment governing trust services in Kenya.
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to present complex technical information clearly to clients, beneficiaries, and internal teams.
- Demonstrated risk management skills, sound judgement, and a high standard of professional integrity in all fiduciary decision-making.
