Role Overview
This role focuses on identifying, acquiring, and deepening relationships with embassies, multilateral organisations, and donor bodies (EMDOs) within the country. Day to day, the relationship manager will pitch for new mandates, ensure seamless onboarding of accounts, and coordinate with the global EMDO team to capture high-priority opportunities. Success in this position directly drives the bank’s market share among these influential institutions and opens the door to new project-related revenue streams.
Key Responsibilities
- Build and maintain a current database of EMDO contacts, track upcoming projects, and prioritise must-win accounts or mandates for conversion.
- Collaborate with the Group EMDO team to align proposals and service handovers, ensuring that newly won mandates are onboarded quickly and smoothly.
- Proactively approach embassies and donor agencies to secure account openings, especially when new projects are launched in the country.
- Develop annual relationship plans and monthly pipelines to meet penetration targets, monitor account profitability, and adjust business development tactics as needed.
- Act as the primary service liaison for assigned EMDO clients, resolving issues and ensuring that all product and service commitments are delivered on time.
- Attend networking events, symposiums, and high-level meetings to maintain visibility, participate in RFPs, and position the bank as a preferred partner.
- Engage retail and digital banking teams to incorporate consumer-facing solutions into EMDO proposals and identify co-branded opportunities around SDG-related events.
- Map fund flows from headquarter-based EMDOs (often located in Europe or the US) to in-country projects, identifying vendors or agencies that may serve as intermediaries and managing those relationships.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Minimum 3–5 years of experience in relationship management, business development, or sales leadership within financial services or a donor/consulting organisation.
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Management, Finance, Economics, Marketing, or an equivalent field; a master’s degree is advantageous.
- Demonstrated track record of acquiring and expanding relationships with embassies, multilateral organisations, donor agencies, government entities, or large commercial/nongovernmental accounts.
- Strong sales and negotiation skills with a customer-service mindset and ability to respond quickly to client needs.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to create proposals, lead presentations, and participate in executive-level meetings.
- Proven ability to develop lasting business relationships across diverse economic sectors and to self-motivate toward completing long-term objectives.
- Willingness to travel on short notice and attend evening or weekend networking events as required.
- Solid understanding of digital banking solutions and how they apply to institutional clients.
