Role Overview
This role combines field-based business development with end-to-end lending operations: you will find prospective borrowers, assess their ability to repay, process revolving-credit applications, and support clients throughout the life of their loans. Your work will help grow the lending portfolio while safeguarding its quality through responsible credit decisions, consistent repayment follow-up, and compliance with internal and regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify prospective borrowers in your assigned territory, explain available loan products, and build a pipeline of potential clients.
- Meet customers to understand their financing needs, assess their financial circumstances, and gather and verify application information and supporting documents.
- Evaluate creditworthiness and repayment risk, then recommend decisions within your delegated approval authority.
- Prepare loan paperwork, coordinate approval requirements, and arrange disbursement in line with established procedures.
- Explain loan conditions, repayment schedules, and financial-management basics so clients can make informed borrowing decisions.
- Track loan use and portfolio performance, contact customers about upcoming or overdue payments, and contribute to delinquency management and recovery efforts.
- Work toward assigned disbursement and collection goals, maintain accurate customer and CRM records, and submit regular performance reports.
- Gather market and competitor insights, identify opportunities to offer relevant additional products, and represent the organization professionally in the field.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Diploma or degree in business, finance, economics, marketing, or a related discipline.
- At least two years of experience in microfinance, a SACCO, banking, or credit operations.
- Experience with revolving credit products is strongly preferred.
- Practical knowledge of loan processing, credit appraisal, risk assessment, collections, and recovery.
- Demonstrated ability to sell financial products and grow a customer or lending portfolio against targets.
- Strong customer relationship, negotiation, communication, and problem-solving skills, with sound financial literacy.
- Comfort using Microsoft Office and digital lending systems; able to maintain precise records and manage competing deadlines.
- High integrity, attention to detail, resilience, adaptability, and the ability to work collaboratively.
- Willingness to travel and conduct fieldwork across assigned territories; a valid riding or driving licence is an advantage.
