Job Description

Role Overview

This role is based within the regulatory affairs function of a major financial services group with operations across multiple African countries. Day to day, you will design and maintain compliance programmes, track legislative changes, and advise business units on licence conditions and product approvals before launch. Your work directly supports the group’s ability to expand into new markets while staying aligned with local and cross‑border regulatory expectations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create and implement a Compliance Management Programme tailored to each African market where the group operates.
  • Monitor ongoing adherence to local laws, regulations, licence terms, and internal policies, flagging any deviations.
  • Review new products and services prior to launch to verify they meet all applicable legal and regulatory standards.
  • Assist business units in securing necessary licences, regulatory approvals, and authorisations from relevant authorities.
  • Track emerging regulatory developments across African jurisdictions and analyse their potential impact on the organisation.
  • Prepare impact assessments and coordinate the group’s response to proposed changes in legislation or policy.
  • Partner with internal teams to shape regulatory engagement strategies and strengthen overall governance practices.
  • Liaise with internal audit and business functions to identify compliance gaps and recommend corrective measures.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Law, Economics, Finance, or a closely related discipline (a Master’s degree or MBA is a strong plus).
  • At least five years of relevant experience in a heavily regulated environment such as banking, fintech, financial services, or telecommunications.
  • Solid understanding of legal and regulatory frameworks that govern financial services across Africa.
  • Familiarity with compliance management, regulatory policy, and licensing processes.
  • Proficiency in both English and French (business‑level) is highly advantageous.
  • Strong IT skills and comfort with compliance‑related software and reporting tools.
  • Excellent analytical and problem‑solving abilities, with a track record of interpreting complex regulations.
  • Outstanding communication and presentation skills, capable of influencing stakeholders at all levels.
  • Experience designing and implementing processes in a cross‑functional, multi‑jurisdictional setting.
  • High integrity, discretion when handling confidential information, and the ability to thrive in a fast‑paced, performance‑driven culture.

What We Offer / Why Join

This is a rare opportunity to take ownership of compliance strategy across a diverse portfolio of African markets, working for a well‑established multinational that genuinely values regulatory excellence. You will collaborate with senior stakeholders, influence how the group navigates complex regulatory landscapes, and build a career within a dynamic, growth‑focused organisation.
