Role Overview
This position is responsible for delivering hands-on legal and compliance support across CFAO Mobility Kenya's commercial operations. The day-to-day work centres on reviewing and negotiating agreements, advising internal stakeholders on legal and regulatory obligations, and keeping the company's compliance programme current, practical, and effective. The role matters because it directly protects the business from legal, financial, and reputational harm while enabling teams to move forward confidently with their contracts and day-to-day decisions.
Key Responsibilities
- Write, assess, and negotiate a wide range of commercial agreements and supporting legal documents, ensuring the company's interests are protected and commercial risks are clearly identified before anything is signed.
- Maintain the company's library of standard contract templates, providing clear and practical guidance to business teams on acceptable terms, common pitfalls, and the meaning of key obligations.
- Manage the full contract lifecycle, from execution and obligation tracking through to renewals, expiries, and terminations, ensuring nothing lapses or slips through unnoticed.
- Track changes in Kenyan legislation, regulatory guidance, and industry requirements, assessing what those changes mean for the business and advising teams on necessary adjustments.
- Drive the implementation and ongoing improvement of the compliance framework, including policies, procedures, and the compliance calendar, making sure obligations are met on time.
- Conduct compliance reviews and targeted risk assessments, flagging gaps and working with business functions to build action plans and verify that corrective measures are actually completed.
- Prepare regular reports and maintain up-to-date trackers covering contracts, legal risks, compliance status, regulatory developments, and outstanding actions for management review.
- Design and deliver practical training and awareness sessions on legal and compliance topics, helping to build a culture where ethical conduct and accountability are part of everyday practice.
Requirements & Qualifications
- A Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) degree from a recognised institution.
- At least 5 years of professional experience in a legal or compliance role, with hands-on involvement in commercial contracting and regulatory matters.
- A recognised qualification or certification in compliance, corporate governance, data protection, anti-money laundering, or a closely related field.
- Proven ability to draft, review, and negotiate commercial contracts, with sound judgment on legal and commercial risk.
- Practical experience in legal and regulatory compliance, risk management, and corporate governance, including translating regulatory requirements into operational actions.
- Experience gained in the automotive, manufacturing, mobility, or another regulated business environment is considered an advantage.
