Reconciliation Accountant

Role Overview

This position centres on safeguarding the accuracy and integrity of financial records across a manufacturing business. You will own the end-to-end reconciliation process, resolve discrepancies, and ensure all statutory filings are completed correctly and on time. Your work will directly support month-end reporting, audit readiness, and smooth collaboration between finance and operational departments.

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out regular reconciliation cycles for bank accounts, general ledger accounts, customers, suppliers, and intercompany balances, and follow through on unresolved items until they are cleared.
• Prepare and post adjusting journal entries to correct misallocations, clear aged reconciling items, and accurately record daily customer receipts including withholding VAT.
• Prepare and file statutory returns such as PAYE, NSSF, SHIF, VAT, WHT, WHVAT, and instalment tax, while keeping up to date with Kenyan compliance requirements.
• Monitor and allocate import-related costs – freight, duties, clearing charges, and other landing expenses – and assist in valuing raw materials, work-in-progress, and finished goods.
• Work alongside procurement, sales, supply chain, stores, and production teams to investigate inventory and general ledger variances, and resolve operational finance queries.
• Support the month-end and year-end close by preparing balance sheet schedules, audit documentation, and detailed support for financial statement preparation.
• Maintain complete and well-organised accounting records, ensuring every transaction has a clear audit trail and follows internal control policies.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or a related field.
• CPA (K), ACCA, or an equivalent professional accounting qualification.
• 5–7 years of hands-on accounting experience, with a strong preference for candidates from the manufacturing sector.
• Proven ability to handle complex reconciliations, statutory compliance, inventory accounting, and financial reporting.
• Solid understanding of Kenyan tax and statutory obligations, including corporate taxes, VAT, withholding taxes, and social contributions.
• Practical experience with ERP or accounting systems; familiarity with manufacturing ERP environments is an added advantage.
• Advanced Excel skills and a systematic approach to data analysis, variance investigation, and problem-solving.
