Job Description

Role Overview

This position is central to keeping import and export operations moving smoothly across air, ocean, and inland container depot routes. You will handle the end-to-end customs clearance journey—from gathering transport documents and preparing draft entries to securing approvals, coordinating inspections, and ensuring cargo is released without unnecessary delay. Your work directly supports the logistics team by removing administrative and regulatory bottlenecks, so shipments reach their destinations on time and in full compliance with local laws.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collect and verify all shipping documentation from port sheds, airport cargo terminals, and inland container depots before customs processing begins.
  • Prepare and capture draft customs entries for imports, exports, and IDFs in the customs system, routing them through the entry clerk for quality review before submission.
  • Track customs approvals and releases for both import and export declarations, following up consistently until cargo is formally cleared.
  • Liaise directly with inspection authorities and other regulatory bodies to arrange timely examinations and resolve any issues that could stall clearance.
  • Coordinate with port authorities, airlines, handling agents, and ICD operators to expedite cargo movement and maintain visibility on shipment status.
  • Dispatch internal and external documentation within agreed deadlines, managing parcels, letters, and delivery instructions while obtaining proof of receipt.
  • Keep the operations team fully informed of shipment progress, delays, inspections, and collection or delivery milestones, flagging potential problems early.
  • Maintain accurate records of all import and export documentation, ensuring strict adherence to established SOPs and audit-ready accountability.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • At least 2 years of hands-on experience in clearing and forwarding, with demonstrated knowledge of customs procedures for air and ocean freight.
  • A certificate in customs administration or a freight forwarding practising certificate is required.
  • Valid driver’s licence or motorcycle licence, as the role involves travelling to ports, airports, and handling sheds to collect and dispatch documents.
  • Strong analytical ability to review shipment documentation for accuracy, completeness, and regulatory consistency.
  • High attention to detail when preparing customs entries and managing compliance-critical paperwork.
  • Ability to work effectively both within a team and independently under pressure, managing multiple shipments against tight deadlines.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the confidence to interact professionally with customs officials, port authorities, and internal teams.
  • Proactive, results-driven approach to problem-solving and shipment escalation.
