Role Overview
As the Storytelling & Editorial Associate at Inkomoko, you sit at the point where the organisation's work on the ground becomes the words the outside world reads. Day to day, you draft, sharpen and coordinate written material — press releases, newsletters, website copy, campaign assets and flagship publications — while chasing down the raw stories from colleagues and field teams that give those pieces their credibility. Reporting to the Campaigns & Thought Leadership Manager, your work keeps a fast-moving, multi-country communications operation consistent in voice, accurate in detail, and genuinely rooted in the communities Inkomoko serves.
Key Responsibilities
- Write and edit copy for press releases, media packs, newsletters, website pages and campaign materials, adjusting register and format for each platform and reader.
- Apply the team's messaging framework to every draft so pieces map cleanly to the core narrative pillars, hold a dignified tone, and are backed by locally sourced proof points.
- Copy-edit and refresh website content in close coordination with digital and brand colleagues, keeping pages current, accurate and on-brand.
- Pull together editorial contributions for the annual report, newsletters and major publications — gathering inputs from teams across countries and steering drafts through review cycles and deadlines.
- Work with colleagues and field teams to capture impact stories, translating visits, activities and project milestones into publishable pieces for publications, project updates and social posts.
- Contribute to thought leadership writing and editorial shaping, and help craft interview questions and framing for the podcast, media interviews and similar editorial projects.
- Assemble partner-ready visibility packs for priority moments: tailored copy and visuals for each story angle, correct crediting and consent notes, and straightforward guidance on how partners can amplify the piece.
- Source story leads through internal channels such as Slack and structured check-ins, maintain the editorial calendar and tracker alongside newsletter and annual report trackers, and equip storytelling champions with prompts, interview guides, consent guidance and packaging templates.

- Excellent organisational skills and the composure to run several tasks and deadlines in parallel without letting quality slip.

- A real interest in storytelling, campaigns and thought leadership, plus curiosity about social impact, entrepreneurship and economic inclusion.
- Willingness to source stories and information proactively by monitoring internal channels such as Slack and engaging colleagues directly.
