Role Overview
This internship sits within a Nairobi-based department that operates as a catalytic financier for an association of conservancies. Your focus will be on providing hands-on coordination and community-facing support across a portfolio of funded conservation initiatives, helping to keep work plans on track, documentation accurate, and local stakeholders meaningfully involved. You will work closely with the Senior Programme Officer and partner organisations, acting as a reliable link between the fund, conservancies, and the communities they serve.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain up-to-date project work plans, implementation schedules, and activity trackers for ongoing conservancy and community initiatives.
- Proactively follow up with conservancies and implementing partners on agreed activities, deliverables, and deadlines, flagging any delays or risks to the internal team.
- Support the preparation of project updates, meeting briefs, implementation reports, and documentation of key decisions and action points.
- Coordinate logistics and documentation for meetings, workshops, field visits, and other departmental activities.
- Track project milestones and performance data against agreed outputs, outcomes, and indicators, updating monitoring tools and templates.
- Participate in field-based monitoring visits and community consultations, collecting feedback and verifying information provided by funded conservancies.
- Support engagement with conservancies, community representatives, and local stakeholders, ensuring respectful and effective communication throughout.
- Identify implementation challenges and escalate issues that require management attention or follow-up action.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Project Management, Environmental or Conservation Management, Natural Resource Management, Community Development, or a related field.
- Project management experience gained through academic projects, internships, volunteer work, or community-based initiatives.
- Basic monitoring and evaluation skills, including the ability to collect, consolidate, and interpret project performance data.
- Strong documentation and report-writing skills, with attention to accuracy and detail.
- Competence in Microsoft Office, particularly Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage respectfully with communities, conservancies, and external partners.
- Strong organisational skills, including managing timelines, coordinating activities, and following up on deliverables.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively, identifying tasks that need attention and acting with limited supervision.
- Professionalism, confidentiality, accountability, and respect when handling project and community information.
- Knowledge of tools such as Power BI, Kobo, Toolbox, Google Workspace, GIS, or other monitoring/data-management platforms is an added advantage.
- Experience working with conservancies, communities, NGOs, development organisations, or conservation programmes is an added advantage.
