Program Specialist - Master Trainer, NYOTA Refugee Business Development Service Specialist

Role Overview

BDS Delivery Specialist will be part of DRC’s proposed team for the World Bank-supported National Youth Opportunities Towards Advancement (NYOTA) Project, implemented by the Government of Kenya through the Micro and Small Enterprises Authority (MSEA). In this anticipated assignment, the specialist will spend most of their time facilitating practical business development training, coaching refugee youth in Kakuma/Kalobeyei and Dadaab, and helping participants shape early business ideas into stronger micro-enterprises. The role matters because it translates BDS content into locally relevant, inclusive and usable learning for young people with different literacy levels, abilities and life circumstances. Any engagement is conditional on DRC progressing to the proposal stage and ultimately being awarded the assignment.

Key Responsibilities

• Facilitate approved BDS classroom sessions covering core business skills, entrepreneurial mindset, soft skills, and digital tools that support small business operations.
• Use experiential, interactive and practical training methods that reflect local market conditions, varying literacy levels, and the realities of refugee youth.
• Provide one-to-one and small-group coaching on opportunity identification, business model improvement, pricing, cash flow, bookkeeping, marketing, and customer service.
• Deliver or support Training of Trainers sessions using the approved curriculum and minimum facilitation standards, while applying the customized BDS package consistently.
• Collect and share structured feedback on participant needs, curriculum relevance, and the adaptations required to improve delivery.
• Facilitate in relevant local languages and use accessible methods and formats for participants with different communication, mobility or sensory needs.
• Apply gender-responsive, disability-inclusive and trauma-informed approaches; recognize barriers facing women, young caregivers and persons with disabilities and support appropriate referrals or participation adjustments.
• Maintain complete participant records, attendance documentation, training reports and verification evidence, coordinate with the Team Leader, mentors and project staff to reinforce learning and post-training progress, and contribute to business networking, market-linkage and information sessions as required.

Requirements & Qualifications

• At least three years of specific experience and technical capacity in implementing BDS programmes, including business or entrepreneurship training.
• Direct experience working with youth and vulnerable populations in refugee settings.
• Proven experience delivering Training of Trainers, including facilitation in multiple languages.
• Experience supporting early-stage businesses in the micro-enterprise sector.
• Demonstrated understanding of the local community context for micro and small enterprises.
• Bachelor’s degree in entrepreneurship, business management, or a related field.
• Proficiency in written and spoken English and Kiswahili.
• Proficiency in Somali is highly desirable, especially for work with refugee communities in Dadaab.
