Role Overview

This internship places recent graduates at the heart of the REWARDS program, where you will work alongside experienced Business Counsellors to support women micro-retailers in building resilient, financially independent livelihoods. Day to day, you will help deliver hands-on training, accompany counsellors on field visits in and around Kisumu and Nairobi, and contribute to participant mobilization—with a strong focus on ensuring women with disabilities are meaningfully included and supported. The program is hiring two interns, and one of these positions will also serve as an inclusion champion, modeling accessible practices and acting as a dedicated resource for the wider team.

Key Responsibilities

• Co-facilitate participant training sessions, following the program curriculum and adapting delivery to meet diverse learning needs.
• Travel with Business Counsellors on regular site visits to monitor business growth, identify challenges, and offer practical, on-the-ground solutions.
• Capture and document participant success stories that demonstrate the real-world impact of the REWARDS program.
• Support field monitoring by helping to record participant data accurately, ensuring progress metrics are up to date and reliable.
• Assist with the mobilization and recruitment of women with disabilities, helping them access program opportunities and feel welcomed from the start.
• Participate in program meetings, contribute to team discussions, and help draft reports that keep stakeholders informed.
• Act as a visible advocate for disability inclusion, helping colleagues apply accessible practices across all program activities.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in international development, social sciences, business administration, economics, or a closely related field.
• Genuine interest in social impact, particularly how micro-retail can support financial independence and long-term resilience.
• Prior experience working with or supporting persons with disabilities is highly valued.
• Lived experience of disability is strongly preferred, and applicants with lived experience are encouraged to apply and will be given priority consideration.
• Basic multimedia skills, including photography and videography, with an ability to capture participant stories with dignity and respect.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills, especially for data collection and field monitoring tasks.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for participant outreach and recruitment.
• Willingness to travel locally, including to Kisumu, Nairobi, and neighboring counties, to accompany counsellors on site visits.
• Clear understanding of disability inclusion principles and the ability to advocate for accessible practices in a professional setting.
