Job Description

Role Overview

A busy steel and metal processing plant in Ruiru needs a Production Supervisor who can keep fabrication lines moving from raw material intake through to finished order dispatch. You will own the daily rhythm of the shop floor — deciding what runs when, who runs it, and how material and machine time are used — while working under the Factory Operations Manager. This role matters because every hour of unplanned downtime or excess scrap directly erodes plant margin, so your ability to plan tightly, spot problems early, and hold operators to quality and safety standards is central to hitting delivery commitments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare, update, and drive the master production schedule for all confirmed manufacturing orders, sequencing jobs to match machine capacity and promised delivery dates.
  • Follow each order through its processing stages, clearing hold-ups at bottleneck workstations so shipments leave on time.
  • Confirm with procurement and stores that the required raw material, consumables, and chemicals are on hand before a run is released to the floor.
  • Assign machinery, tooling, and shift manpower against daily volume targets, adjusting allocations when orders or breakdowns change priorities.
  • Check shift output against technical drawings, material specifications, and quality benchmarks, and work with QC inspectors to quarantine non-conforming stock and close out corrective actions.
  • Review production logs and output metrics to expose inefficiencies in the process, then act to bring down scrap rates and operating costs.
  • Supervise line operators on shift, enforcing PPE rules and workplace safety regulations, and managing attendance and conduct on the floor.
  • Raise routine and emergency repair requests with the maintenance department to protect equipment reliability, and submit shift summaries, yield figures, and incident reports to senior management.
  • Keep work orders, inspection records, and Standard Operating Procedures accurate and current.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Diploma or bachelor's degree in Production Management, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Technology, or a comparable discipline.
  • Three to four years of practical experience in manufacturing operations, production scheduling, or supervising a factory line.
  • Prior exposure to the steel, metal fabrication, or heavy industrial manufacturing environment is a strong advantage.
  • Confident user of Microsoft Excel, plus ERP or production planning systems for tracking data and monitoring inventory.
  • Working knowledge of lean manufacturing methods, material control, and shop-floor yield tracking.
  • Strong troubleshooting instincts — able to diagnose line delays, equipment stoppages, and material shortages quickly and act under time pressure.
  • Assertive team leadership: comfortable directing shop-floor technicians, managing attendance, and upholding safety compliance.

Work Environment

  • Full-time, on-site position at the company's plant in Ruiru, Kiambu County.
  • Monthly remuneration of KSh 60,000 – KSh 80,000.
  • Hands-on shop-floor role within an established industrial manufacturing and steel processing operation.
  • Applicants living in or around Ruiru and Kiambu County are particularly encouraged to apply.
