Role Overview
You will be the person on the ground keeping a manufacturing operation in Ruiru running smoothly, making sure every shift has clear targets, enough materials, and functioning equipment. Working directly under the Factory Manager, you will translate weekly customer orders into practical production plans, supervise floor staff, and step in quickly when line disruptions threaten delivery deadlines. The quality of your supervision directly influences the plant’s output, scrap levels, and overall cost efficiency, making this an essential role for the company’s day-to-day success.
Key Responsibilities
- Build and communicate weekly production schedules based on incoming orders and current stock levels, then adjust shift targets as priorities change.
- Allocate operators to different workstations, monitor their progress throughout the day, and modify line speeds to keep output aligned with delivery commitments.
- Check raw material availability with inventory and procurement teams before each production run begins, flagging shortages early to avoid downtime.
- Keep precise records of shift logs, work orders, machine output, and completed units, using this information to support daily reporting.
- Inspect products on the line against quality specifications and work with QA inspectors to identify, isolate, and correct any defective batches.
- Reinforce factory safety rules, ensure operators follow equipment handling procedures, and coordinate with technicians on preventive maintenance to reduce breakdowns.
- Review line efficiency data to identify bottlenecks, material waste, or repeated downtime causes, then apply lean manufacturing methods to improve throughput.
- Monitor how resources like raw materials, labour hours, and machine capacity are used, aiming to reduce scrap and keep unit production costs under control.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Production Management, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Technology, or a related discipline.
- At least 3–4 years of hands-on experience in production scheduling, line supervision, or factory operations management.
- A working knowledge of manufacturing workflows, quality management systems, and material control principles.
- Strong computer proficiency, especially in Microsoft Excel and inventory management software, for tracking output and generating performance reports.
- Demonstrated leadership ability, including team allocation, conflict resolution, and clear communication with both operators and senior management.
- An analytical approach to problem-solving, capable of reacting quickly to line stoppages, machine faults, and changing production demands.
