Role Overview
As Production Supervisor, you will be embedded in the day-to-day rhythm of a high-volume food processing plant, coordinating shifts, keeping lines moving, and making real-time decisions that balance output, quality, and safety. Your work directly impacts food safety, operational efficiency, and the plant's ability to meet customer commitments, making you a central figure in both daily execution and longer-term improvements.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate daily shift activities across production lines, assigning staff to workstations, adjusting labor allocation as volumes change, and clearing bottlenecks that threaten on-time completion.
- Lead, motivate, and develop a team of production operators and technicians by setting clear expectations, conducting regular performance check-ins, and providing on-the-job coaching that builds technical and problem-solving skills.
- Monitor product flow and process parameters throughout the shift to ensure yield targets, line speeds, and quality tolerances are met without compromising food safety.
- Conduct systematic line inspections, raw material spot checks, and finished-product evaluations to catch defects early, then implement corrective actions in line with quality management and HACCP principles.
- Drive continuous improvement by identifying waste in materials, time, or labor, proposing practical solutions, and supporting lean initiatives such as 5S, root cause analysis, or standard work updates.
- Enforce strict adherence to health, safety, and hygiene protocols, leading pre-shift briefings, documenting near-misses, and ensuring all incidents are properly investigated and follow-up actions closed out.
- Maintain accurate shift records covering production output, downtime, machine stoppages, and personnel performance, then present concise summaries and performance trends to plant management.
- Collaborate with maintenance, planning, and quality teams to schedule changeovers, address equipment issues, and ensure production plans are realistic and clearly communicated to all stakeholders.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Production Management, Industrial Engineering, Food Technology, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field; equivalent manufacturing experience with proven leadership responsibility will also be considered.
- At least 3–5 years of supervisory experience in a manufacturing setting, with direct experience in food processing strongly preferred.
- Hands-on knowledge of production scheduling, resource planning, and quality control methods such as SPC, HACCP, or GMP.
- Demonstrated ability to lead diverse production teams, resolve conflicts, and build accountability in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
- Comfort using production management systems and standard reporting tools (e.g., ERP modules, spreadsheets, shift handover logs) to track performance and support decision-making.
- Working knowledge of occupational health and safety regulations and a clear commitment to maintaining a safe work environment.
- Strong analytical skills for troubleshooting process issues, interpreting production data, and identifying root causes of inefficiencies or defects.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to provide clear instructions, document issues accurately, and communicate effectively with both shop-floor staff and senior management.
- Detail-oriented, resilient under pressure, and able to manage multiple priorities without losing focus on product quality and team wellbeing.
