Job Description

Role Overview

This position leads daily production operations across the plant, with direct accountability for output, workforce productivity, quality standards, and on-site safety programs—including serving as the primary driver of ANZEN workplace safety initiatives. Beyond managing the shop floor, the role works to improve how information and operational data flow through the department, strengthens reporting and business processes, and actively identifies opportunities to upgrade systems while maintaining a safe and compliant environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Direct all production activity within the department, ensuring output meets targets for cost, quality, and on-time delivery, and that every process aligns with the wider company strategy.
  • Act as the lead champion for workplace safety (ANZEN), ensuring that safety measures are fully integrated into daily operations and that the plant remains compliant with environmental, health, and legal standards.
  • Identify risks and bottlenecks in production areas early, then take decisive action to resolve them and convert operational challenges into opportunities for improvement.
  • Develop and implement variable cost productivity programs across the department, using lean principles and continuous improvement methods to reduce waste, optimize working capital, and get the best possible cost performance from capital investments.
  • Plan and coordinate maintenance schedules to keep all plant equipment safe, functional, and fully compliant, while minimizing unplanned downtime.
  • Support new model introductions by providing design-for-assembly input at the concept stage, working with project and process teams to implement revised designs that maintain quality, safety, cost, and environmental goals.
  • Set departmental Balanced Scorecard objectives, monitor progress against key performance indicators, and deliver clear, accurate production reports to senior management on a regular basis.
  • Lead, coach, and develop direct reports—managing performance reviews, attendance, holidays, and disciplinary matters—while building a high-performing team that understands the value of open communication, innovation, and mutual support.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a closely related field from a recognized institution.
  • A minimum of seven years of relevant production management experience, gained in a recognized manufacturing or automotive organization.
  • Strong understanding of assembly processes, mechanical systems, and automotive manufacturing techniques.
  • Hands-on experience applying lean manufacturing, continuous improvement, and waste-reduction methodologies to production environments.
  • Proven ability to read and act on operational data, prepare annual production budgets, and manage capital expenditure projects from proposal through to completion.
  • Working knowledge of health, safety, and environmental regulations, including experience leading ANZEN or equivalent workplace safety programs.
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills, with a demonstrated record of motivating teams, mentoring direct reports, and facilitating smooth collaboration across engineering, product line management, and process departments.

What We Offer / Why Join

This is a senior operational leadership role within an established manufacturing business, ideal for someone who wants direct ownership of production outcomes and safety culture. You will have the authority to shape processes, drive capital improvement, and influence new product introductions—while being supported by a team that values innovation, professional growth, and continuous development.
