Role Overview
As Transport Dispatcher, you will plan, coordinate, and oversee the daily movement of incoming and outgoing freight, making sure every delivery fits the right route, vehicle, and time window. You will act as the central link between drivers, warehouse teams, and customers, keeping operations fluid and ensuring that when something changes on the road—traffic, breakdowns, last-minute orders—the plan adjusts quickly.
Your decisions have a direct effect on service reliability, fuel spend, and overall transport efficiency, so your work is fundamental to keeping our logistics promises and protecting margins.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and sequence daily transport schedules, taking into account delivery windows, distance, traffic conditions, vehicle capacity, and driver hours to maximise efficiency.
- Use transportation management systems (TMS) and route optimisation tools to assess the most effective routes and adjust plans as orders or road conditions change.
- Brief drivers before departure on their assigned routes, delivery priorities, special customer requirements, and any handling or documentation instructions.
- Monitor vehicle and shipment progress in real time, intervening when route deviations, delays, or missed slots are identified.
- Respond quickly to incidents such as breakdowns, congestion, accidents, or urgent redirections by reassigning work and alerting affected parties.
- Serve as the main point of contact for drivers, internal departments, and external stakeholders, ensuring that all relevant parties are informed of schedule changes and delays.
- Maintain accurate records of transport activities, including dispatch times, delivery confirmations, delays, and incident reports, and produce performance reports against key indicators.
- Support change initiatives and process improvements aimed at raising productivity and streamlining transport operations.
Requirements & Qualifications
- At least 3 years of experience in transport dispatch or a related logistics role, ideally within warehousing, logistics, or an FMCG environment.
- A university degree or diploma in logistics, supply chain management, or a related discipline is desirable, though equivalent practical experience will be considered.
- Practical knowledge of transportation management systems (TMS) and route optimisation software.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in English, with the ability to give clear instructions to drivers and coordinate with internal teams.
- Excellent organisational and problem-solving abilities, especially when managing competing priorities in a fast-paced setting.
- Solid business and commercial understanding, with a focus on controlling costs without compromising service quality.
- A results-oriented, well-structured approach to work and the capacity to operate with minimal supervision.
