Job Description

Role Overview

Komarock Modern Healthcare in Kitengela is seeking a skilled and reliable Laboratory Technologist to join our diagnostic team. In this role, you will be responsible for the day-to-day running of laboratory tests—from receiving and preparing samples to operating analysers and reporting results that clinicians rely on for accurate diagnoses. Your discipline and precision will directly support patient safety and help maintain the high standard of care our facility is known for.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collect, label, and log incoming specimens, verifying that each sample matches the accompanying request form and patient details.
  • Operate laboratory equipment and analysers, performing daily quality checks and routine maintenance to ensure accurate results.
  • Carry out diagnostic procedures across haematology, biochemistry, microbiology, and other departments as assigned.
  • Review all test outputs for consistency and flag any abnormal or questionable results for repeat testing or escalation.
  • Prepare reagents, culture media, and other materials needed for testing, keeping careful records of preparation dates and expiry.
  • Maintain an organised filing system for patient reports, both physical and electronic, to enable quick retrieval and reference.
  • Adhere to strict infection prevention and waste disposal protocols, ensuring a clean and safe working environment at all times.
  • Monitor stock levels of consumables and reagents, coordinating with the lab manager to prevent shortages that could interrupt service.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Diploma or Bachelor of Science in Medical Laboratory Sciences or an equivalent qualification from a recognised institution.
  • A valid professional licence from the relevant regulatory authority, where applicable to your role.
  • At least two years of practical experience in a hospital or clinical diagnostic laboratory setting.
  • Keen analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to investigate discrepancies and troubleshoot equipment issues.
  • Meticulous attention to detail, ensuring accuracy in sample handling, labelling, and result recording.
  • Capacity to work independently on assigned tasks while also collaborating effectively within a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for clear reporting, handovers, and coordination with clinical staff.
  • Demonstrated organisational skills and an ability to manage multiple priorities across different laboratory sections.
  • A proactive, hard-working approach with strong critical thinking skills and a commitment to continuous learning.

Qualified candidates should submit an updated CV, an application letter, and a copy of their professional licence if applicable, via email to [email protected] by 7th August 2026. Use the subject line format: Full Name – Position Applied For – Kitengela. Only shortlisted applicants will be contacted.
