Role Overview
You will step into a busy pharmacy environment where every shift involves more than just counting tablets. Your primary focus is ensuring that each patient receives the correct medication, a clear explanation of how to use it, and the reassurance that their treatment plan has been carefully reviewed. Beyond the counter, you will take ownership of stock accuracy, help shape team working practices, and make sure every transaction and process complies with national pharmacy regulations. The quality of your clinical judgment and attention to detail directly impacts patient safety and the pharmacy’s reputation in the community.
Key Responsibilities
- Review and dispense prescription orders, checking for accuracy in dosages, potential drug interactions, and contraindications before handing over medication.
- Counsel patients on the correct use, side effects, and storage of medications, tailoring your advice to each person’s level of understanding and health literacy.
- Monitor and manage stock levels by placing timely orders, rotating stock to avoid expired products, and conducting regular physical counts to reconcile documented inventory.
- Supervise pharmacy assistants and technicians, delegating tasks, providing on-the-job guidance, and ensuring that all team members follow established procedures.
- Maintain meticulous records for controlled drugs, patient consultations, and prescription logs in full compliance with legal and regulatory standards.
- Identify opportunities to improve workflow efficiency, reduce waste, and enhance patient experience while keeping the pharmacy operational within budget.
- Answer queries from both patients and healthcare providers, supplying clear medication information and escalating any concerning clinical issues to the appropriate authority.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor of Pharmacy degree from a recognized institution.
- Minimum of 3 to 4 years of hands-on experience working as a pharmacist in a clinical or retail pharmacy setting.
- Active registration with the Pharmacy and Poisons Board and a valid annual practicing license.
- Strong analytical skills, particularly in interpreting prescriptions, spotting inventory discrepancies, and measuring usage patterns.
- Solid inventory management capability, including forecasting needs, minimizing wastage, and tracking serialized products when required.
- Sound business acumen with the ability to balance professional care responsibilities with cost-awareness and retail performance targets.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, plus a demonstrated ability to interact with patients from diverse backgrounds.
- Uncompromising integrity, professional discretion, and the ability to work calmly under pressure in a fast-moving environment.
