Job Description

Role Overview

Based at Premier Hospital and reporting directly to the Pharmacy Manager, this position keeps the hospital's pharmacy units running accurately and safely every day — verifying prescriptions, preparing and dispensing medicines, and keeping stock levels reliable across outpatient and inpatient service points. The work directly protects patients, because a correctly dispensed dose, a properly stored batch or an early catch on an expiring item can prevent harm before it reaches the bedside. You will operate within established professional and regulatory frameworks, and your attention to detail shapes how quickly and confidently clinical teams can treat the people in their care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Receive, interpret and verify prescriptions and ward requisitions, checking dose, route, frequency and potential interactions before anything is dispensed.
  • Prepare and dispense medications to outpatients, inpatients and other hospital units accurately, labelling each item with clear directions for the patient.
  • Compound or reconstitute preparations that require mixing, dilution or special handling, following the correct technique and hygiene standards.
  • Manage pharmacy stock end to end: receiving deliveries, confirming quantities against documentation, arranging proper storage including cold-chain items, and rotating stock to prevent expiry losses.
  • Monitor stock levels and expiry dates, flag slow-moving or short-dated items, and raise timely requisitions so that essential medicines are never out of stock.
  • Maintain accurate records of all transactions, including receipts, issues, returns and documentation for controlled or restricted substances, in line with regulatory requirements.
  • Carry out regular stock counts and reconcile physical stock against system records, investigating and reporting any variances.
  • Advise patients and caregivers on how and when to take their medicines, expected effects and what to do about missed doses, and refer clinical questions onwards.
  • Work alongside nurses, doctors and other pharmacy staff to resolve prescription queries, clarify orders and support smooth patient flow during peak hours.
  • Keep work areas clean, organised and compliant with safety, infection-control and waste-disposal standards.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Diploma in Pharmacy from a recognised institution.
  • A minimum of two years' post-qualification experience, of which at least one year was spent in a busy hospital pharmacy environment.
  • Working proficiency in Microsoft Office — Excel, Word and PowerPoint — for record keeping and reporting.
  • Strong written and verbal communication, with the ability to explain medicine instructions clearly to patients.
  • Sound interpersonal skills and a proven ability to collaborate within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Demonstrated capacity to work under pressure with minimal supervision in a fast-paced, high-volume setting.

If your background matches the above, send your CV, cover letter, expected salary, testimonials and details of three referees to [email protected]. Applications close on 30 September 2026 at 5:00 PM.
