Job Description

Role Overview

This is a hospital-based pharmacy position focused on the responsible dispensing of medications and the daily supervision of pharmaceutical services. You will work alongside medical teams to ensure safe drug use, maintain accurate patient health records, and support the seamless operation of the pharmacy unit within established professional and regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Screen and verify prescriptions for correctness, appropriate dosing, and potential drug interactions before dispensing.
  • Prepare and dispense medications accurately while providing clear guidance to patients and caregivers on usage, storage, and possible side effects.
  • Maintain and update patient medication records using Health Management Information Systems to support continuity of care.
  • Supervise pharmacy support staff, ensuring that workflows, documentation, and handling of controlled substances comply with institutional policies.
  • Monitor and manage pharmaceutical inventory, including stock level checks, ordering, and proper storage of medicines and supplies.
  • Participate in ward rounds or clinical consultations to offer pharmaceutical input on patient treatment plans.
  • Conduct routine quality checks of the pharmacy unit and report any discrepancies, adverse reactions, or drug-related issues.
  • Support the induction and training of new pharmacy personnel or interns as part of the departmental capacity-building effort.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • A Bachelor of Pharmacy degree from a recognised institution or a Diploma in Pharmaceutical Technology from an accredited training programme.
  • At least three (3) years of post-internship working experience in a hospital environment, with demonstrated ability to take on a supervisory role.
  • Full registration and a current, valid practice license from the Pharmacy and Poisons Board.
  • Strong computer literacy, particularly in Health Management Information Systems and other standard pharmacy software.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for interacting with patients, clinical colleagues, and support teams.
  • Proven capacity to lead shifts, guide junior staff, and maintain professionalism under pressure.
