Role Overview
This position sits at the frontline of a busy pharmacy along Thika Road, where you are the last check between a prescriber's instructions and the medicine a patient actually takes home. Day to day you review orders, dispense accurately, explain how each product should be used, and keep the shelves, records, and cold storage in a state that would satisfy any inspector. Because ten openings are being filled at once, the employer is building a team that can hold clinical standards steady across rotating shifts without letting stock or paperwork slip.
Key Responsibilities
- Screen every incoming prescription for dose, frequency, route, and therapeutic suitability before anything is handed over, and raise concerns with the prescriber when something does not add up.
- Dispense prescription and over-the-counter medicines with precise written and verbal directions covering dosage, timing, and the side effects a patient should watch for.
- Counsel patients on storing medicines correctly at home, keeping to their dosing schedule, and knowing when to return for follow-up care.
- Track stock levels daily, monitor batch numbers and expiry dates, and rotate supplies so older stock leaves the shelf before newer deliveries.
- Keep the dispensing area, cabinets, and refrigeration units clean, secured, and within the temperature range that sensitive products require.
- Log incoming deliveries against their paperwork, carry out periodic physical counts, and flag reorder needs early enough to prevent shelves running empty.
- Apply Pharmacy and Poisons Board rules at every stage of dispensing, and keep the dangerous drugs register, dispensing logs, and patient records complete and up to date.
- Take part in internal audits and external inspections, supplying records and explaining procedures to visiting health authorities.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Diploma in Pharmaceutical Technology from a recognised training institution.
- Active registration with the Pharmacy and Poisons Board, supported by a current valid practising licence.
- A minimum of two years of progressive dispensing experience in a hospital or retail pharmacy setting, with widening responsibility over that period.
- Solid grounding in pharmacology, therapeutics, medical terminology, and the review checks that sit behind safe dispensing.
- Attention to detail sharp enough to catch dosing and drug-selection errors before they reach a patient.
- Strong listening and interpersonal skills, with the confidence to explain clinical information clearly to people who may be anxious or unfamiliar with medical language.
- Willingness to work shifts within a full-time healthcare facility roster.
