Description:

Harbor, a fast-growing professional services firm backed by private equity, is looking for a Payroll Analyst to join its global Talent team during an exciting phase of modernizing payroll and HR technology across the organization. This role goes beyond routine payroll processing — you’ll play a part in shaping technology upgrades, streamlining processes, and driving automation that makes payroll operations more efficient and employee-friendly.

Working across a range of countries, states, and regulatory jurisdictions, you’ll collaborate closely with HR, Finance, Technology, and various business leaders to build a payroll function that reflects best-in-class standards. This is a fully remote, full-time position open to candidates anywhere in the United States, working EST hours.

The ideal candidate brings hands-on experience with modern HRIS systems, enjoys leveraging technology to strengthen compliance and improve the employee experience, and thrives in a fast-moving, growth-focused environment. If you’re excited about helping build a modern global payroll function while advancing your own career, this opportunity is worth exploring.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and process multi-country payroll with accuracy, confidentiality, and timeliness
  • Review payroll data and reports for correctness, liaising with Finance on reporting needs
  • Keep payroll database records current and accurate
  • Process payroll entries tied to the employee lifecycle — new hires, raises, bonuses, commissions, garnishments, benefit changes, and separations
  • Calculate adjustments, retroactive payments, and overpayments; issue manual payments when needed
  • Prepare year-end payroll schedules and verify accuracy of vendor-processed year-end returns
  • Track time entries and manage timesheet adjustments
  • Partner with the Payroll Manager and other departments on audit requests
  • Respond to unemployment claims, verify calculations, and dispute errors as needed
  • Assist employees with payroll-related questions and issues
  • Identify and implement opportunities for automation and process improvement
  • Maintain payroll controls and documentation to ensure compliance
  • Support payroll integration during acquisitions or business expansion
  • Contribute to ongoing optimization of Harbor’s HR technology stack, including Workday and ADP
  • Validate benefit-related system configurations and deductions
  • Support annual healthcare renewals and open enrollment processes

Requirements:

  • At least 3 years of experience in payroll administration
  • Solid understanding of local, state, and federal employment laws related to pay practices
  • Hands-on experience with Workday required; ADP and OSV strongly preferred
  • Strong commitment to confidentiality and data protection standards
  • Detail-oriented, self-motivated, and highly organized
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong knowledge of: • Payroll calculations and benefit plan applications • Customer service and communication practices • Microsoft Excel, including complex report generation and analysis
