Job Description

Role Overview

This is a field-based position that puts a hands-on coatings practitioner directly in front of the people who apply and sell the product — painters, applicators, contractors, dealers and counter staff. The job blends practical demonstrations, on-site application coaching and small-group training sessions, all aimed at raising application standards and building genuine preference for INS Africa Coatings products. It matters because adoption in this market is won at the brush and roller level: sharper technique, fewer avoidable complaints and stronger ties with trade influencers convert directly into product movement and secondary sales. Performance is judged on the volume and quality of trainings and demonstrations delivered, the number of painters, dealers and contractors actively engaged, the leads and project opportunities surfaced, and the reduction of avoidable application complaints.

Key Responsibilities

  • Schedule and deliver recurring training programmes for painters, contractors, applicators, dealers and counter staff at dealer outlets, project sites and other approved venues.
  • Run live product demonstrations covering surface preparation, application methods, tool selection, coverage rates and finishing techniques.
  • Give priority attention to newly launched, premium and technically demanding products — especially difficult finishes and formulations that call for specific application methods.
  • Show users how to select and correctly operate conventional and automated painting tools and equipment.
  • Carry out application trials, mock-ups and on-site demonstrations that support product conversion and open up project opportunities.
  • Accompany Sales Representatives and Area Sales Managers on market visits to dealers, painters, contractors and live projects, and support painter meets, product launches and exhibitions; coach dealers and counter staff on lines that are under-stocked, under-promoted or slow-moving.
  • Spot product and application knowledge gaps across the territory, organise short targeted sessions to close them, troubleshoot basic on-site product and application problems, escalate genuine technical complaints to the relevant department, and pass new painter, contractor, site and project leads to the sales team for follow-up.
  • Keep accurate records of trainings, attendance, dealer and site visits, demonstrations and leads, submit weekly and monthly activity reports, and work closely with Sales & Marketing, Technical and other functions to meet company objectives.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Diploma or certificate in Paint Technology, Chemistry, Industrial Chemistry, Engineering or a closely related field.
  • 2–3 years of practical painting or application experience, ideally gained in paints and coatings, construction chemicals, building materials or a comparable industry.
  • Solid working knowledge of surface preparation, application methods, tools and finishing techniques.
  • Familiarity with both conventional and automated painting equipment and how to use it correctly.
  • Previous involvement in painter training, product demonstrations or technical and customer support would be a strong advantage.
  • Confident presenter and demonstrator, able to break technical product information down for audiences with differing levels of literacy and experience.
  • Customer-focused, energetic, self-motivated and target-oriented, with strong relationship-building, market coverage and follow-up skills.
  • Proficient in MS Office, particularly PowerPoint, Word and Excel.
  • Fluent in English and Kiswahili; knowledge of additional regional languages is an advantage.
  • Able to work independently while contributing as part of a sales team, willing to travel extensively within the assigned territory, and holding a valid driving licence (an added advantage).

What We Offer / Why Join

  • Ownership of the training and demonstration agenda across an assigned territory, with the autonomy of an independent field role and the backing of a coordinated sales team.
  • Frequent contact with active projects, dealer networks and trade events, giving you the chance to build a broad professional network among painters, contractors and applicators.
  • Close cross-functional working with Sales & Marketing and Technical colleagues, so decisions are shaped by real market, product and technical input.
  • Clearly defined, activity-based performance measures — trainings delivered, demonstrations completed, people engaged, leads generated and product converted — so your contribution is visible and measurable.
