Role Overview
This is a front-line commercial role for someone who can convert East Africa's busy trade corridors into booked cargo. You will spend most of your time in the market — sitting down with manufacturers, exporters, traders and transport operators, learning where their goods need to move, and matching those needs to overland haulage, export handling, container freight station services and related logistics work. The revenue you bring in and the trade relationships you build directly shape how much regional cargo the business moves and how firmly it is recognised as a dependable partner by both shippers and the agencies that regulate them.
Key Responsibilities
- Hunt for and onboard shippers — manufacturers, exporters and traders based in Kenya whose consignments travel to Uganda, Tanzania, other neighbouring markets or onward to overseas destinations.
- Sell across the full service range, including cross-border road transport, export cargo handling, CFS operations, stripping for verification, container stuffing and supporting logistics services.
- Keep a live opportunity pipeline, track it against targets, and shepherd prospects through to signed, revenue-generating accounts.
- Secure partner capacity — transporters, clearing and forwarding agents, shipping lines and other providers — so that whatever is promised to a customer can actually be delivered.
- Keep the company visible and credible with public and trade bodies such as KRA, KPA, KRC, TRA and URA, as well as relevant industry associations.
- Own a portfolio of key accounts: check in regularly, resolve service issues early, and grow the relationship into new lanes or additional services.
- Monitor regional cargo flows, competitor pricing and emerging demand, then feed that intelligence back into commercial planning.
- Prepare proposals and quotations, negotiate within the approved commercial framework, and coordinate with operations and customer service so sold work runs smoothly.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in business, marketing, logistics, supply chain management or a comparable discipline.
- Five to seven years of hands-on sales or business development experience; a background in logistics, freight forwarding, CFS operations, shipping or transport is a strong advantage.
- An established contact base among manufacturers, exporters, traders, transporters, clearing agents and other logistics players in the region.
- Working knowledge of customs processes, export documentation and the main East African trade corridors.
- Demonstrated ability to open doors, build a pipeline and close commercial deals.
- A confident negotiator and communicator who can hold a room with commercial customers and public-sector stakeholders alike.
- Self-directed, comfortable operating with limited supervision, and with the integrity to represent the company well externally.
- Willing and able to travel frequently across Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania.
The person who thrives here treats the region as their territory rather than a desk job — well-connected, commercially sharp, and persistent enough to turn first conversations into lasting export and overland cargo volumes.
