Role Overview
This role oversees the day-to-day running of a production shift within a manufacturing operation, with a strong preference for experience in corrugated packaging, carton converting, printing, or a similar packaging environment. The supervisor turns the production plan into clear work assignments, keeps machines and materials flowing, and steps in when quality, staffing, or equipment issues threaten output. The position matters because it directly connects operational targets with what happens on the floor: safe teams, controlled waste, consistent product quality, and reliable delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and assign daily work to production team members, including machine operators, helpers, and shift staff, ensuring clear expectations and adequate coverage.
- Translate production plans into shift schedules, set priorities, and adjust staffing or line assignments when downtime, material shortages, or urgent orders arise.
- Monitor corrugating, converting, printing, die-cutting, gluing, or carton assembly equipment to maintain run rates and reduce unplanned stoppages.
- Check output against specifications, conduct in-process inspections, and work with quality teams to isolate non-conforming board, print, or finished cartons.
- Track raw materials, adhesives, inks, and packaging supplies; raise requisitions and coordinate with stores to avoid shortages or excess.
- Coach, train, and appraise team members, promoting safe work practices, correct machine handling, and consistent standard operating procedures.
- Investigate production delays, material waste, and machine inefficiencies; document findings and support corrective actions with maintenance and engineering.
- Maintain shift reports, production logs, and handover notes so managers and following shifts have accurate performance data.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Diploma or degree in Production, Manufacturing, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Operations Management, or a comparable discipline.
- 3–5 years of hands-on experience in a manufacturing or production setting.
- Proven experience supervising or leading production teams, with the ability to direct operators and coordinate shift activities.
- Highly preferred: background in corrugated packaging, carton manufacturing, paper converting, printing, or a closely related packaging operation.
- Practical knowledge of production planning, machine utilisation, quality control methods, and material management.
- Comfortable reading production schedules, specifications, and basic reports, and able to solve routine line issues under time pressure.
- Strong communication and people-management skills for coordinating across shifts, maintenance, quality, and stores.
