Role Overview
This position takes charge of nursing practice, clinical governance, and patient safety across all outreach clinics, making sure every location follows the same high standard of care. On a daily basis, you will review clinical data, guide nursing teams, oversee compliance with regulatory and accreditation requirements, and turn audit findings into practical improvements. Your leadership directly shapes patient outcomes, staff performance, and the organisation’s reputation for safe, patient-centered care.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direction for nursing operations in outreach clinics, aligning daily practice with the organisation's clinical and strategic goals.
- Ensure all nursing activities meet Nursing Council of Kenya standards, national healthcare regulations, and internal professional expectations.
- Develop and maintain clinical protocols, nursing guidelines, and practice standards, then monitor how consistently they are applied across teams.
- Drive quality improvement by analysing incident reports, patient safety data, clinical indicators, and audit results to identify root causes and implement lasting corrective actions.
- Coordinate accreditation and certification efforts, including preparation for SafeCare, JCI, or equivalent quality assessments.
- Oversee infection prevention and control measures through staff training, policy enforcement, and ongoing surveillance of compliance.
- Manage the nursing workforce along the full employee lifecycle, from hiring and onboarding to performance reviews, coaching, and retention.
- Lead the response to patient complaints and safety concerns, ensuring timely resolution and using lessons learned to improve service delivery.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing from a recognised institution; a Master’s degree in healthcare administration, business, management, or a related clinical field is an advantage.
- Valid registration and a current practising licence from the Nursing Council of Kenya.
- At least ten years of clinical nursing experience in an acute care hospital setting, with a minimum of three years in a supervisory or managerial role.
- Demonstrated understanding of quality improvement methodologies, patient safety frameworks, and risk management principles.
- Familiarity with accreditation systems such as SafeCare, JCI, or similar standards is strongly preferred.
- Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams, mentor nursing staff, and build a culture focused on accountability and continuous learning.
- Strong analytical and decision-making skills, with the capacity to translate complex data and audit findings into clear action plans.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, along with high professional integrity and a commitment to patient-centered care.
