Job Title: Network Engineer
Purpose of the Job
The primary role is to analyze, design, install, configure, maintain, and repair the network infrastructure and application components. The position also provides direction, information, and recommendations regarding network configurations and installations to ensure optimal performance and security.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Design, set up, and configure complex switching environments and wireless networks that support secured access and enable voice and video applications.
- Configure and set up Cisco Firewalls, VPN Concentrators, and security appliances to ensure access to vital mission-critical applications.
- Maintain network security through proper configuration of VPN and Firewalls.
- Set up and maintain the LAN and its associated components, including switches, structured cabling, and power provisioning.
- Assist in the design of multi-server environments, including IP address schemes, DNS, and WINS.
- Provide technical assistance and support to internal staff, vendors, and partner agencies.
- Maintain both the wired and wireless network, including performance, security, throughput, and upgrades.
- Implement network upgrades by developing, testing, evaluating, and installing enhancements.
- Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for all implemented networks.
- Implement effective maintenance of all hardware, including enterprise hardware such as servers, storage, switches, routers, and UPS units.
- Troubleshoot network hardware and software applications, IP phones, and security systems to resolve operational issues and restore services.
- Support KenTrade’s internal networks and links to other sites (Primary site, DR site, and integration points), including internet and other data lines, ensuring they are configured and working correctly.
- Ensure that all work and changes to infrastructure components are performed in a way that minimizes disruptions to existing ICT services.
- Assist in keeping track of KenTrade’s infrastructure assets and ensure that the infrastructure and data are kept secure at all times.
- Ensure that technology is used, managed, and supported in accordance with KenTrade’s standards, policies, and procedures.
- Undertake such other duties as may be reasonably required and which are consistent with the level of responsibility of this job role.
Minimum Academic, Professional Qualifications, and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in ICT, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field from a recognized institution.
- CCNA, CCNP, CCVP, or VoIP certification.
- Knowledge of VoIP implementation and support.
- Meets provision of Chapter Six of the Constitution.
