Job Description

Role Overview

This position owns the day-to-day health of Gertrude's hospital-wide network: the local and wide area links, wireless coverage, internet services, inter-site connections, IP telephony, and the paths that reach cloud and partner-hosted systems. Keeping those services continuously available is what allows clinical and enterprise applications to function at every facility, so the work has a direct bearing on patient safety and care quality. The Network Administrator also applies the network security controls agreed with the Cyber Security team and prepares the infrastructure to carry new clinical, biomedical, and IoT devices.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor and maintain local, wide area, wireless, internet, and inter-site connectivity so that clinical and enterprise applications remain reachable at all hours.
  • Track network performance, capacity, and integrity; investigate latency, packet loss, and outages; and drive root-cause analysis through to resolution.
  • Configure, patch, and upgrade routers, switches, wireless controllers, and firewalls in line with change-management and documentation practices.
  • Implement and operate the network security controls defined together with the Cyber Security team, including segmentation, access rules, and monitoring.
  • Administer IP telephony and related voice services so that communications stay reliable across facilities.
  • Maintain connectivity to cloud services and partner-hosted platforms, coordinating with service providers and vendors when circuits or interfaces fail.
  • Support the introduction of new clinical, biomedical, and IoT technologies by verifying that they can be connected, segmented, and supported safely.
  • Keep topology, configuration, and operating records current, and work alongside ICT colleagues, clinical departments, and external vendors on escalations and projects.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • A bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, or a closely related discipline.
  • Three or more years in a network administration role, preferably in a multi-site or always-on environment.
  • A current Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) credential, Fortinet NSE (Network Security Professional), or another comparable, industry-recognized networking certification.
  • Hands-on experience with routing, switching, wireless, and firewall platforms, plus a solid grasp of network security controls.
  • Working knowledge of IP telephony, cloud connectivity, and troubleshooting inter-site links.
  • Ability to document network designs and changes clearly and to collaborate effectively with clinical and technical stakeholders.
