Job Description

Role Overview

You will act as an independent assurance specialist for the Motor Insurance portfolio, carrying out structured reviews of underwriting decisions, policy administration, and claims handling to ensure the business operates within agreed control frameworks. Your work will equip the Head of Motor with objective, data-driven insight into where controls are failing, where fraud or claims leakage is occurring, and where corrective action is needed to safeguard profitability. On a typical day, you will extract and interrogate portfolio data, test transaction samples against policy rules, document compliance exceptions, and turn your findings into clear recommendations that tighten operational discipline across the function.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct independent, sample-based reviews of motor underwriting files, policy documentation, and claims settlements to confirm adherence to internal guidelines, regulatory requirements, and delegated authority agreements.
  • Identify and investigate red flags indicative of fraud, collusion, or opportunistic claims behaviour, escalating confirmed or suspected cases through the appropriate governance channels.
  • Analyse claims cost trends, average repair costs, claims frequency, and settlement patterns to pinpoint sources of leakage and recommend corrective interventions.
  • Test key controls across the motor insurance value chain and report control gaps, process deviations, and recurring operational errors to the Head of Motor.
  • Develop and maintain monitoring reports and dashboards that track compliance exceptions, quality scoring, and emerging portfolio risks over time.
  • Prepare clear, concise assurance reports with evidenced findings, root-cause analysis, and prioritised recommendations for management action.
  • Follow up on agreed action plans to confirm that corrective measures are implemented and sustained, and where necessary escalate unresolved issues.
  • Collaborate with underwriting, claims, compliance, and finance colleagues to support continuous improvement of policies, procedures, and control documentation.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • A bachelor's degree in Insurance, Actuarial Science, Finance, Business, Statistics, Data Analytics, or a related discipline.
  • A minimum of 3 to 5 years of relevant experience in motor insurance, ideally encompassing underwriting, claims, quality assurance, internal audit, compliance, fraud review, or insurance analytics.
  • A recognised insurance qualification such as ACII or CII, or a demonstrable equivalent, is considered an advantage.
  • Additional certification in fraud examination, risk management, internal audit, compliance, or data analytics will strengthen your application.
  • Solid understanding of motor insurance underwriting and claims processes, compliance review methodologies, and control testing techniques.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, with Power BI or other business intelligence tools viewed favourably.
  • High personal integrity, sound professional judgment, meticulous attention to detail, and strong analytical and report-writing capabilities.
