Role Overview
You will build and maintain mobile applications used by customers on both Android and iOS, working primarily with cross-platform frameworks and cloud-connected services. Your day-to-day work spans the full delivery cycle, from writing clean code and integrating APIs to participating in automated testing and release pipelines, ensuring the apps remain stable, secure, and responsive. This role matters because the applications you ship directly shape how users interact with the organisation's digital products, so quality and reliability here have a visible business impact.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and build mobile app features using modern cross-platform frameworks, ensuring consistent behaviour and appearance across Android and iOS devices.
- Develop reusable UI components, service layers, and application modules that can be shared across multiple features or product lines.
- Connect mobile front ends to backend REST APIs, microservices, and third-party services, managing data flow, authentication, and error handling.
- Investigate and resolve production defects, performance bottlenecks, and device-specific compatibility issues.
- Contribute to technical design discussions, proposing practical ways to keep the codebase maintainable, scalable, and secure.
- Help build and refine CI/CD pipelines for mobile builds, automated tests, and app store releases, while embedding security checks throughout the delivery workflow.
- Write unit tests and automated UI tests, and support QA by reviewing code and documenting test scenarios.
- Collaborate with product owners, designers, backend engineers, QA, and DevOps in Agile ceremonies such as sprint planning, stand-ups, and retrospectives.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related discipline.
- 2 to 4 years of professional experience in mobile application development.
- Hands-on experience shipping production applications in Flutter and/or React Native, including platform-specific deployment to the App Store and Google Play.
- Solid understanding of mobile UI/UX principles, including responsive layouts, navigation patterns, and performance optimisation for lower-end devices.
- Experience integrating mobile applications with cloud-native services and backend APIs, with familiarity in handling asynchronous operations and offline data synchronisation.
- Practical exposure to Agile/Scrum delivery environments, using tools like Jira or similar for backlog management.
- Familiarity with automated build and deployment pipelines, version control systems such as Git, and mobile testing frameworks.
- Knowledge of secure coding practices relevant to mobile development, such as secure storage, certificate pinning, and safe handling of user credentials.
