Job Description

Position: Merchandiser – Solar Lights

Industry Sector: Renewable Energy / Consumer Goods

Location: Nairobi (Multiple Supermarket Outlets)

Primary Objective

We are looking for result-oriented Merchandisers to enhance the market presence of our solar lighting products within key retail outlets. Your mandate is twofold: to ensure our products are the most visually striking items on the shelf and to actively convert foot traffic into sales through persuasive demonstrations. You will act as the face of the brand at the store level, building strong relationships with supermarket personnel and providing customers with technical product insights. This role requires a proactive individual who can manage inventory effectively while consistently hitting daily sales benchmarks in a competitive retail environment.

Functional Workstreams

Sales Activation & Brand Advocacy

  • Actively engage supermarket shoppers, providing live demonstrations of solar lighting solutions and their benefits.

  • Convert customer interest into confirmed sales to meet and exceed monthly performance targets.

  • Build and maintain professional rapport with supermarket floor managers to secure premium shelf positioning.

  • Identify specific customer needs and recommend the most appropriate solar products for their requirements.

Display Excellence & Merchandising

  • Execute and maintain attractive, clean, and organized product displays according to brand guidelines.

  • Implement in-store branding and promotional setups to maximize visibility in high-traffic areas.

  • Monitor product placement daily to ensure our solar lights remain prominent and accessible to customers.

  • Ensure all point-of-sale materials and pricing labels are accurate and professionally presented.

Inventory Control & Insights

  • Monitor stock movement meticulously, ensuring shelves are replenished and reporting low stock levels immediately.

  • Coordinate with the logistics team and store staff to manage stock rotation and minimize damages.

  • Submit daily sales reports and activity summaries to the supervisory team.

  • Provide real-time market feedback on competitor pricing, promotions, and changing customer preferences.

Candidate Profile

The Essentials

  • Education: Diploma in Sales & Marketing, Business Administration, or a related field.

  • Experience: Minimum of 2–3 years as a Merchandiser, Sales Promoter, or retail staff.

  • Sector Familiarity: Prior experience within supermarkets or FMCG environments is highly preferred.

  • Added Advantage: Experience selling electronics or renewable energy products.

  • Persuasive Communicator: Ability to explain technical product features in an easy-to-understand and compelling way.

  • Target-Driven: A self-motivated approach to meeting sales quotas and performance KPIs.
