Role Overview

BOMA is recruiting Mentors to carry the SOIL Program from planning into practice across Marsabit County. Working directly with participating households, you will be the person who turns program design into monthly, on-the-ground progress — coaching participants through business and savings activities, facilitating group sessions, connecting producers to market opportunities, and tracking how each household is advancing toward better nutrition, stronger livelihoods, and greater resilience. Because Mentors live in the communities they serve, you act as the frontline bridge between BOMA, enrolled families, and local community and government structures, ensuring the program is delivered with quality, cultural fluency, and accountability.

Key Responsibilities

• Identify, mobilize, and enrol eligible participants in the SOIL Program within the assigned village or location, applying BOMA's targeting criteria and ensuring transparent, inclusive selection.
• Form and strengthen Village Savings and Loan Association (VSLA) groups among participating households, supporting group governance, savings discipline, and record-keeping practices.
• Deliver monthly coaching and mentorship sessions to participants, covering entrepreneurship, business planning, nutrition, livelihoods, and child well-being topics.
• Facilitate training and capacity-building sessions with individuals and groups, adapting content to the literacy levels, language, and context of the community.
• Provide hands-on business coaching to participants, helping them refine income-generating activities and make sound financial decisions.
• Build linkages between participants and markets, input suppliers, financial services, and relevant government or community structures that support program outcomes.
• Monitor the progress of interventions through regular follow-up visits, collecting and submitting accurate data using digital data collection tools and reporting templates.
• Collaborate with the Field Officer and community stakeholders — including local government structures — to resolve challenges and keep program delivery on track.
• Uphold BOMA's program quality, safeguarding, accountability, and policy standards in all interactions with participants and communities.

Requirements & Qualifications

• At least a Diploma in Business Administration, Entrepreneurship, Agribusiness, Agriculture, Community Development, Nutrition, Community Health, Public Health, Social Work, Development Studies, Project Management, or a related discipline.
• A minimum of two years' relevant experience in community-based program implementation, livelihoods, entrepreneurship, nutrition, agriculture, economic inclusion, financial inclusion, or resilience programming.
• Demonstrated hands-on experience in community mobilization, participant mentorship, business coaching, or savings group facilitation.
• Experience working with women, pastoralist communities, or other rural and vulnerable populations is highly desirable.
• Familiarity with digital data collection tools and Microsoft Office is an added advantage.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to coach and facilitate effectively across diverse groups.
• Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision, while remaining self-driven, motivated, and accountable for results.
• Residency: Must be a resident of the specific SOIL program implementation location or village.
• Language: Fluency in English and Kiswahili, plus fluency in the local language spoken in the assigned location.
• Technical: Solid basic computer and digital literacy; ability to work in remote and challenging environments.
• Licensing: A valid motorcycle riding licence (Class A1/A2) is mandatory, as daily motorcycle travel is required to deliver program activities in the field.
