Mentor - Malabot

Role Overview

BOMA is recruiting Mentors to carry out the day-to-day delivery of the SOIL Program across Marsabit County. Working directly with participating households, you will translate program plans into monthly coaching, training, savings group support and market connections that move families toward stronger nutrition, income, entrepreneurship, resilience and child well-being. Because you live in the community you serve, you act as the trusted frontline bridge between BOMA and the households, groups and local structures the program depends on.

Key Responsibilities

• Mobilise, target and enrol eligible participants in the assigned village or location, applying program criteria and safeguarding standards throughout the process.
• Form new Village Savings and Loan Association (VSLA) groups and strengthen existing ones so members can save, borrow and manage their finances with confidence.
• Deliver monthly one-on-one coaching, mentorship and business coaching to participants, supporting them to plan, run and grow income-generating activities.
• Facilitate group training and capacity-building sessions on livelihoods, entrepreneurship, nutrition, financial inclusion and related program topics.
• Connect participants to markets, buyers, service providers and other opportunities that help their enterprises and households thrive.
• Track participant progress through regular follow-up visits, collect quality data using digital tools, and report field findings to the Field Officer.
• Build and maintain working relationships with community leaders, local government structures and other stakeholders whose cooperation is needed for program outcomes.
• Apply BOMA's program quality, accountability, safeguarding and policy requirements in every interaction with participants and communities.

Requirements & Qualifications

• At least a Diploma in Business Administration, Entrepreneurship, Agribusiness, Agriculture, Community Development, Nutrition, Community Health, Public Health, Social Work, Development Studies, Project Management or a related discipline.
• A minimum of two years' relevant experience in community-based programme implementation, livelihoods, entrepreneurship, nutrition, agriculture, economic inclusion, financial inclusion or resilience programming.
• Proven experience in community mobilisation, participant mentorship, business coaching or facilitating savings groups.
• Experience working with women, pastoralist communities or other rural and vulnerable populations is highly desirable.
• Familiarity with digital data collection tools and Microsoft Office is an added advantage.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to coach and facilitate groups effectively.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, and to stay motivated, self-driven and accountable in a field setting.
• Must reside in the SOIL program implementation location or village to which you are assigned.
• Fluency in English and Kiswahili, plus fluency in the local language spoken in the assigned location.
• Solid basic computer and digital literacy, and the ability to work in remote, challenging environments.
• A valid motorcycle riding licence (Class A1/A2) is mandatory, as the Mentor rides a motorcycle daily to deliver program activities in the field.
