Job Description

Role Overview

You will serve as the mechanical backbone of the production floor, performing hands-on maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs across a range of machinery. Your daily focus is on sustaining safe, high-quality operations while actively reducing waste and environmental impact. By mentoring technical operators in mechanical engineering and Unilever Manufacturing System techniques, you directly strengthen the team's capability and the factory's overall performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Execute planned and condition-based preventive maintenance with precision, ensuring tasks are completed on time and in full to minimise unplanned downtime.
  • Diagnose and resolve mechanical faults on complex production equipment using drawings, manuals, and diagnostic tools.
  • Apply strict lockout/tagout (LOTOTO) procedures and safely isolate machinery from all utilities—including electricity, compressed air, steam, and product lines.
  • Maintain and improve machinery safety standards in line with company requirements, proactively identifying and addressing risks.
  • Monitor and enhance product quality by adhering to local procedures and protecting brand integrity through meticulous maintenance.
  • Use performance data and a zero-loss mindset to identify and eliminate production losses, driving continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Coach and mentor technical operators in mechanical engineering best practices and UMS principles to build team competence.
  • Contribute to waste reduction and proper management of hazardous materials, supporting sustainability and cost targets.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Proven experience working as part of a team in a manufacturing environment, ideally within FMCG.
  • Advanced maintenance experience, with a strong track record of hands-on mechanical repairs and preventative work.
  • Skilled in reading and interpreting mechanical drawings, manuals, and technical specifications.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities, capable of diagnosing and addressing root causes to prevent recurrence.
  • Digital awareness and comfort with using technology for maintenance tracking, data analysis, and reporting.
  • Excellent coaching and communication skills, able to transfer knowledge to operators effectively.
  • Analytical mindset, able to use performance measures to prioritise losses and drive improvements.
  • Relevant technical qualification (e.g., apprenticeship or post-apprentice level) in mechanical engineering or a related discipline.
