Job Description

Role Overview

As an automotive mechanic, you will be responsible for keeping vehicles in safe, reliable working order through a mix of mechanical repairs, electrical fault finding, wheel alignment, and light bodywork. Your day-to-day work will involve diagnosing issues, carrying out hands-on repairs in the workshop, and ensuring every job is completed to a quality standard that keeps vehicles performing well and passing safety expectations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Inspect vehicles to identify mechanical, electrical, and alignment issues and carry out appropriate repairs.
  • Diagnose and repair basic auto-electrical faults, including battery condition, wiring problems, lights, and starter or alternator failures.
  • Perform wheel alignment and balancing using workshop alignment equipment to ensure correct tyre wear and stable handling.
  • Fit and replace body parts such as bumpers, panels, and minor trim fittings, including adjustments to ensure proper alignment and fit.
  • Carry out routine servicing and mechanical maintenance tasks such as brakes, suspension, and general component replacement.
  • Use diagnostic scan tools and standard workshop equipment to pinpoint faults and verify repair outcomes.
  • Keep work areas clean, follow health and safety procedures, and maintain tools and equipment to workshop standards.
  • Communicate clearly with supervisors or customers about required repairs, parts, and completed work.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Diploma or certificate in automobile or mechanical engineering, or an equivalent trade qualification.
  • At least 3 years of hands-on experience as an automotive mechanic.
  • Practical experience working on vehicle electrical systems, including diagnosing and resolving battery, wiring, lighting, starter, and alternator faults.
  • Competence in wheel alignment and balancing using standard workshop machinery.
  • Ability to carry out basic bodywork fitting, such as installing or aligning bumpers, panels, and minor fittings without the need for full denting or painting work.
  • Familiarity with standard diagnostic tools and general workshop equipment.
  • Physically fit, comfortable with prolonged hands-on mechanical work, lifting components, and moving vehicles in and out of the workshop.
