Role Overview
This position keeps the MEAL engine running for a Sudan crisis localization fund, handling the day-to-day mechanics of monitoring data, feedback loops, and learning documentation. Working closely with the Technical Adviser, you will make sure that the Fund’s locally led, systems-based approach is constantly backed by credible evidence and community insight. Your work directly shapes how partners learn, adapt, and report, helping the Fund stay responsive to real-time developments rather than waiting for end-of-cycle evaluations.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain and operate the Fund’s MEAL databases, data collection tools, and monitoring systems, ensuring they remain current, accurate, and fully functional.
- Coordinate ongoing data collection across all operational axes, helping shift the emphasis from periodic reporting to continuous, real-time learning.
- Quality-assure incoming data, applying strict standards for data protection, confidentiality, and reliability, with disaggregation by age, gender, and disability to support inclusion analysis.
- Support the Technical Adviser in refining core MEAL frameworks, including the Theory of Change, results matrix, and indicator definitions.
- Transform raw monitoring data and partner reports into clear, well-organised inputs for regular reporting cycles.
- Document lessons learned, maintain knowledge management resources, and help organise participatory reflection sessions that turn experience into actionable learning.
- Liaise with the external Developmental Evaluation team to supply the data and information they need, and support community feedback mechanisms so local voices inform Fund decisions.
- Provide practical, proportionate MEAL support to partners—especially smaller community-based organisations—and contribute to partner capacity strengthening alongside the Technical Assistance Facility, building on existing partner systems rather than imposing new ones.
Requirements & Qualifications
- At least 3 years of professional experience in a MEAL, monitoring, or data-focused role within humanitarian or development settings.
- Hands-on skills in data collection, data management, cleaning, and basic analysis, including familiarity with digital tools such as Kobo.
- Strong working knowledge of standard office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Proven ability to manage competing workloads, meet deadlines, and adjust approaches as circumstances change.
- Experience working effectively in cross-cultural teams, with a demonstrated commitment to confidentiality and ethical data handling.
- Previous experience partnering with local organisations, community-based groups, or similar grassroots actors.
- University degree in demographics, social sciences, statistics, MEAL, or equivalent practical experience.
- Full professional fluency in both English and Arabic, oral and written.
- Desirable: experience working with a DRC legal entity; familiarity with Dynamics or other robust ERP systems (SAP, Oracle); basic knowledge of Power Apps or internal grants system development; prior experience in East Africa or Sudan.
