Job Description

Role Overview

This position sits at the heart of the Group’s push to embed climate and green finance across its banking subsidiaries. Day to day, you will translate the central sustainability strategy into practical credit and business workflows, working alongside country teams to identify eligible green transactions and ensure they meet internal and regulatory standards. Your ability to align local practices with group-wide frameworks will directly shape how the organisation manages climate risk and scales its green lending portfolio.

Key Responsibilities

  • Drive the rollout and local adaptation of the Group’s climate and green finance strategy, ensuring every subsidiary integrates sustainability criteria into lending, credit appraisal, and portfolio monitoring.
  • Oversee the full pipeline of green and climate-aligned transactions, from initial screening and categorisation through to final validation against the Group’s Green Framework and recognised taxonomies.
  • Act as the bridge between the central sustainability team and country offices, keeping everyone aligned on priorities, deadlines, and reporting requirements for sustainability initiatives.
  • Ensure consistent application of the Group’s Environmental and Social Management System (ESMS), green lending rules, and climate risk guidance, offering hands-on support wherever subsidiaries face implementation gaps.
  • Give practical technical advice to Relationship Managers, Credit teams, and Risk functions on how to structure climate finance deals and apply green eligibility criteria with confidence.
  • Work side-by-side with Credit and Risk departments to weave environmental and climate considerations into underwriting decisions, credit approvals, and ongoing portfolio oversight.
  • Build capability across the Group by creating and running training sessions that demystify green lending, climate risk, and sustainability frameworks for non-specialist staff.
  • Coordinate the collection of climate finance and sustainability data from subsidiaries, then consolidate it into clear reports for management, board updates, and external disclosure.
  • Track emerging regulatory and market trends in sustainable finance, feeding insights back into the Group’s frameworks and helping prepare the organisation for new requirements.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from a recognised university is essential; a postgraduate qualification in a related field is a strong plus.
  • Professional certification or formal training in Sustainable Finance, Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA), Environmental & Social Risk Management (ESRM), or green/climate taxonomies.
  • At least three years of hands-on experience in sustainability roles, with a clear focus on climate finance, green lending, or green finance frameworks.
  • Solid understanding of Environmental and Social Management Systems (ESMS) and IFC Performance Standards, including how they apply to everyday credit decisions.
  • Demonstrated ability to screen and classify green or climate-aligned deals using internal frameworks and applicable taxonomies, from initial assessment through final approval.
  • Proven stakeholder management skills, including experience engaging with regulators, industry bodies, or development partners on technical environmental, social, or climate risk issues.
  • Experience designing and delivering internal training or capacity-building initiatives on sustainability topics.
  • Strong data analysis and reporting capabilities, with confidence in preparing presentations for varied audiences.
  • Prior experience in green financing and applying go-to-market strategies would be an added advantage.
